yes, Cynb, the Florida primaries. The 'giant rat' is (in my opinion) Mitt Romney, who was beaten a couple of days ago by John McCain.

Oh.....and.....pooh pooh.

CynB, I'm not sure. Its a 2 to 2 and a half hour drive to Brisbane in good traffic from here and I don't ever drive it (I don't do city traffic) so I think I'd have to drive to Robina and get the train up to Southbank. It would be interesting to meet, though.

Eve - are you sure you are living in a democracy?

Thanks Ian - I heard that Rudy (can't spell his last name, after seeing it daily for ages after 9/11) dropped out.

Martha, train from Robina would be a good option, would come directly to South Bank.

why "pooh, pooh", Ian? Interesting - I'm glad you finally explained who the Giant Rat was, cos the "Mickey Mouse" explanation confused me even more. Are you telling me you'd be happy to have someone as prez who should probably be retired and playing bowls by now? (sorry if I offend anyone - I know this sounds age-ist, but... )

Politically, we're getting down to the nitty gritty now. The plot sickens.

Oh Martha. (shakes her head) Our presidential primaries have NO connection with my desire to go to Florida.

Thanks Ian. sigh.

Being an Aussie and hearing less about your upcoming presidential race - I keep getting my words mixed between Obama and the World's Biggest Rat Ever Osama. I wonder if anyone has embarrassed themselves introducing Obama?

Isn't there a forum page to talk about politics?

I heard one older black man say on the news a few days ago that this is the first time where democratic candidates provided blacks with a choice between good and good; I assumed he was referring to Clinton and Obama.

Yep, me too Martha

So, you Americans, who will win?
01/Feb/08 2:21 PM

Just wondering......wasn't a boo or anything. There just may be people on here who don't want to hear about it.

Martha: maybe. But a McCain presidency would give us a leader who was exactly the same age (at the end of an eight-year term) as Ho Chi Minh was when he defeated the most powerful nation on earth.

Prediction: McCain and Obama will be the nominees. And McCain's running-mate will be Colin Powell.

Yes, Angie, we have got a bit political here.

Are you so afraid of thinking?

I thought one of the benefits of this site was to get a perspective on what was going on all over the world. I know I learned a lot about John Howard.

I predict McCain will win. This, in my opinion, is one of those elections where the choices are bad, worse and worst.

OK, thanks Ian, Angie W, Jane, Mamacita in the US and Martha down the road - it's been interesting but I've got to go shopping now. Grocery type - what fun. Love you and leave you.

Ian, I actually don't mind talking politics. I just remember it caused a lot of fuss in the past.

Jane, I think you are correct.

CynB, pick me up some milk and bread please.

We had a local boy (one of our county commissioners) who jumped into the presidential race, but the Georgia Republication party wouldn't even put him on the Georgia ballot. He sold his businesses to finance his campaign, went to Iowa, NH and SC. He probably had the best shot in SC and he got exactly 23 votes. If you're not married to the party (either one), you don't stand a chance.

If I lived in the US, I'd be fighting for a first - first female or first black prez. I'd be a bit concerned though about the chance of assassination. Is it my imagination, or are there a lot of radicals loose in the world?
01/Feb/08 2:30 PM

Martha, I refuse to vote for someone just because of the color of their skin or what gender they are. I will only vote with the candidate who most closely matches the things I stand firm on.
