G'day mates. Here's today's daffynition:
restart — the knack of relaxing
And here's today's factoid:
When you’re anxious or stressed, your breathing can become quick and shallow, which reduces the amount of oxygen going to your organs. Learning how to breathe deeply can help reduce some of the physiological symptoms of anxiety.

I was just on Skype with another Sudoku player who lives near you Neil and the sun came out while we were talking. So you have a few rays of sunshine today!

488 little cubes get painted.

In the today we have Kayo, Dave, HalT, Wolf, Kathy, lonewoof, Bruce, Darwen Jim, Doug W, and Judy. For all your cube painting needs.

Hi shosho.

If you don't have a farkel die here is one way to figure out the cube thing.

First, paint the top and bottom of the outside. The top is a 10x10 square, so 100 little cubes get painted. The bottom is a 10x10 square, so 100 little cubes get painted. That's 200 so far...

Now, paint More...

Hi Serena and Judy,

It was both a Math puzzle and a logic puzzle.

I think the Math solution was better than the logic puzzle - what does everybody else think is the best, and why?

Personally, I think math and logic can be very intertwined. AS far as what to call the puzzle, I'm in the ''a rose by any other name would smell as sweet'' category but I'm not changing my smiley.

Hi Serena, I do not think you should change your smiley either. That would not be logical.

I took a different approach to solving the cube problem. I visualized all of the painted small cubes removed from the large cube leaving an 8 by 8 by 8 cube. 8 x 8 x 8 = 512 unpainted small cubes and 1000 - 512 = 488 painted cubes.

There were two nuns, one of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM), and the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL). It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent.

Sneaky Neil. I never woulda thunk it.

The picture, Serena. Somehow, the cube didn't grab me.

That is the first, and I'm sure the only time, I will, or EVER have been, referred to as ''Kathy-mathy'', Neil! Has a nice ring to it, though.

As I said, the only reason I figured out yesterday's puzzle was because the hubby asked what I was doing when he looked at my scribbling. He informed me I needed to factor in the fact that I had already painted some of the top and bottom and side little cubes.
Yes, he always checks when I balance my checkbook.

I understand there is a possibility of 6-8 inches of snow in this area on Thursday. I suppose I better try and beat the panic and go do my usual weekly shopping today.
I have never understood why people always seem to need toilet paper when it snows. Do they use it for insulation?

Barbara went shopping yesterday. It took both of us to carry the TP into the house.

Wow! My comments yesterday about Serena's puzzle were in no way intended to be critical! My intentions were honorable! I was just trying to encourage the masses here that admit to a math phobia that this, and many of the Monday puzzles, could ALSO be solved with logic or manipulatives. I was More...

Judy, I wasn't offended and I really don't think anyone else was either. I did get more attempts than winners posted. I usually do the thing but didn't today. Too little sleep and not enough caffeine.

Certainly no offense taken, Judy. Admittedly, math doesn't come easily to me. But I am usually willing to give the puzzles a shot. I don't always send in an answer, but I do try and work them. I even get a correct answer once in awhile. Surprise myself, I do.
