Good morning all.
Glad the mystery of the house picture has been solved.

2.04 Well I would never have guessed Spain. Thank you Sue for putting that mystery to bed.

Just a thought, for those who didn't like that joke, have you reported it rather than just voicing your concerns here?
I admit, it was risque, but I did chuckle.

To those celebrating Orthodox Easter this weekend, enjoy the festivities.

Gail, the joke was not abusive, just inappropriate.

Hey guys! It's the weekend, woohoo! Although I did take my dad to see my mom at the nursing home. She was in a good mood! Surprised the daylights out of us!

Usually she takes the occasional swat at me when I try to help her, then turns around with a big smile and yells at my dad. But today she was all smiles and polite. Whatever it was, I could use some now!

Heidi, what kind of bird do you have on your avatar? Colorful! I love fragrant flowers and colorful and singy birds! My ideal garden would have English roses, lily of the valley, jasmines, and sweet olive bush. Parrots, blue birds, meadow larks, and hummingbirds!

Is that a cat in the yard of the "House" ?

Shosho.... That is a Lady Gouldian Finch. I have 10 of them, with 2 pairs nesting right now.

For those interested, I survived the Canberra marathon this morning. The time wasn't great - 3:53:58 - but I had a badly interrupted lead-up so I'm not surprised. Next stop the Canberra half marathon in about a month!

You completed it, Chris, a major accomplishment in my book.

Wow! I'm a real conversation killer.

what exactly constitutes "abusive?"

Chris - congratulations on completing the marathon.
Shosho - I fully understand the uncertainty of visiting your mother and not knowing what to expect. Glad you had a good visit with her.

Oooh, Heidi, the pics are fantastic!!! I only have four dull gray zebra finches. But I hear they're from Australia. I thought all the Ozzie birds were colorful. Dang, I get the gray ones.

CynB you would understand. I appreciate your words, they're heartfelt. It's hard to watch her slowly disappear behind a blank face. I try to remember her as she was years ago. It becomes more and more difficult as I see her now.

Chris, a marathon effort.

2:05. Now I have a bit of spare time I'm getting my daily sudoku fix in. Since the marathon I've been out to lunch with my wife and two sons (including a much-deserved beer and half a pizza) so I've only just got around to getting back onto the site.

Well done Chris, hope it was more than one, beer that is.

I did not find the joke offensive in any way. It was funny. I have to watch much more offesnive things on TV every day at all times of the day. For example this easter I unfortunately watched part of a Michael Caine film called 'Get Carter', which was little more that a catalogiue of swaer words, More...

Hi Rayray. Congratultions on your marathon Chris.

Oh dear, bit of a mistake there V V. Please insert an 'a' between l and t. Thankyou.
19/Apr/09 7:50 PM

Rayray - you might not have been offended, but just imagine if "hearing impaired" or deaf people (to put it bluntly) are on this site. It is hard enough for them to assimilate in a hearing world without being made fun of. They tend to see things in "black and white" and not More...

I'm sorry Jude. I had not fully thought of that aspect of the joke. Nobody defined it before you just now. So, I thought people were objecting to the raunchy character of the joke - although, having said that, I have to say that I had a deaf friend who, had he still been alive, would have loved More...

I guess it depends whether you think a joke is 'making fun of a person' or whether the siutuation is the essential source of humour.
At the time I didn't think that joke was making fun of deaf people. I took it for its situation.

Yes shosho, from their name I suspect the humming-birds do have a nice (?) smell

Hi VV. I saw that avatar yesterday but it was then associated with another (temporary) name and now you have reminded me who is the real person behind it. Being from Macquarie you are indeed very upside-down

I wonder if anyone else saw "Get Carter". Anyone watching it in my opinion would be left with the impression that life is a succession of adult sex with nasty women with cellulite; gunning people down in cold blood for little or no reason; and sentences that are puctuated with extreme More...

Rayray, tend to agree with you but there are younger minds on this site that may not understand or more to the point misunderstand.
Really glad that I have not seen "Get Carter"

I was just saying that this is supposed to be a family site. We have kids pages, even, and nothing to prevent pre-teens from reading comments. From an adult point of view, it wasn't that bad, but this is not a strictly adult site.

Glad I didn't see "Get Carter" either. I don't enjoy the substitution of profanity for good writing.
19/Apr/09 10:24 PM
 |  |

Heidi: I trust that the kids reading the comments about "Get Carter" do not immediately rush to watch it.
19/Apr/09 10:31 PM

Probably will Rayray, just because you said not to.
My pillow is calling me, so catch y'all on the flip side.

yes, in answer to popular demand, Lexi's back. the rules of the game, for those of you who don't remember, are to invent a definition for a real yet obscure word. No googling, dictionary-looking, no asking your pet goldfish. Best definition wins an all-expense paid trip to West Wordonia.

And the word for the day is: Ultrafidian.
19/Apr/09 11:12 PM

Ultra-fidian = A high ranking person in Fidgi whose "J" has walked.
