JUDY: One way to entice the migrants close to your window is to maintain a water feature closeby. Most birds are attracted to the sound as well as the opportunity to drink and groom.
 |  |
STAN: We have an inconspicuous bird bath out in front, and I'm sure that it has helped to seduce the passing birds. However, we try not to put the feeders or the water too close to our windows ... here in the mountains, the birds startle easily and often fly head-first into our windows. We have More...

P.S. Yesterday, I witnessed a passing BEAR slurp and slurp, scarfing up ALL the water! And leaving the inevitable slobber ... yuk!
 |  |
JUDY: Sounds like you have your own wildlife sanctuary. What other mammals do you see there? We have two partially wooded acres near the Birmingham airport. In addition to the birds, we have seen a cayote, some raccoons, opossums, rabbits and other smaller critters.

Sudoku is the best.

STAN, we are at our cabin at 9000' in the California Sierra Nevada Mountains. We have nearly daily visits from bears (docile and non-aggressive), dozens of species of smaller birds, and a variety of chipmunks and squirrels. We also sometimes see coyotes, mule deer, pine martens, marmots, and some gorgeous raptors. My yard at home is much less exciting!

ugh...4:44 today

4:14.

Haven't broken 4 minute barrier yet. It is time to investigate techniques to get beyond the plateau I've acheived by simply doing sudoku for a few months (I've always preferred learning by doing). Any suggestions on where to go to pick up tips?

Thanks & good Maen to all.

Good mAen to one and all. To all who have given me a wonderful education about our bird friends...thank you. Not a big bird watcher, I do enjoy most of them, but have been greatly annoyed at several very persistent birds who want to nest on my patio. They did it one year before I knew what was More...

Judy, I copied the URL directly from the address bar on the website. It goes to Kodak, but is requiring a password. If you are interested in reading about the trip, go to Fodor's website and look in the 'Talk' section, on the 'Africa and Middle East' board. I'm in the process of posting a trip More...

Don't want to upset too many sudoku friends but -
Go Europe Go

All set for tomorrow - no golf for me just want to watch the worlds best, play the best game. A game with no violence, no shouting spectators and a gentlemanly acceptance of result win or lose. After saying that Go Woosies Team Europe Go

Susan/Inham...Just because you built the stateroom you think you should stay there too??? lol Get in line girl. Anne/Vermont, make sure you leave room on the private jet for me, and my cases of bubbly and chocolate. I'll also have a goodly supply of Brie and need plenty of ice, PD Pete. CP, just More...

Wishing Europe well in the Ryder Cup, and GannieMo, I agree with your apt discription of the game. Wishing The Big Ten well also! Go Penn State, and Go Blue, in particular!!! I'm off to join some friends and hope our results are what we'd like them to be.Peace

LP, I was able to see your slide show no problem. Looks like a great trip, and you take awesome pictures.
 |  |
ok a bit of sorting out to do here...for those of you unfamiliar with the Lady Sudoku - this a our very own vitual boat, steered/driven/guided by Pete from Port Douglas, long standing member of the Sudoku community! There is one and only one stateroom on the boat which is generally squatted by More...

Lovely lady in red. Wonder who she is? Looks like she is enjoying herself.

Anyway - for those wondering about clothes for the big cruise - anything goes in general, but there will be a big announcement on Monday giving the theme of the week - so hold on to your horses til then before rushing out to buy a new bikini or disguise
 |  |
Fiona.. have just heard that your hat will be ready... finally... just in time for the cruise! So if you're wearing a bikini, do remember that you will also be sporting a very posh (but I am afraid also very broad-brimmed and flower be-decked) bonnet.
 |  |
What to bring? just some bolly - champagne for the newbies, hocolate (you can guess what that means) and lots and lots of fun ideas - participate, disguise yourselves, get into the thing - it's all good fun and can become very funny if everyone gives it a try! Anyone in doubt should check out the More...

don't believe it Anne!!
 |  |
what about my medal???? do I get that too for services rendered to...who was it again?!!
 |  |
will have to look in the record book, fiona. it's been so long.
 |  |
chatroom, fiona?
 |  |
ok never been a CP before, but what the ... - in case anyone is interested enough to wonder, which is highly unlikely on a sat night, or any other night come to that - this hat of Anne's has been in the making for the last six months at least!!
 |  |
If I sign up for the cruise do I have to do friday sudoku naked? Because , if so, other cruisers may wish to take eye shields, as a naked gannie is not the same as a naked Kate Moss!!!
 |  |
GannieMo - we leave on Monday!!! By Friday, i assure you, it won't matter about what anyone looks like!! And you really won't care! Pick you up on the way? Yes, you're just down the road and it's probably raining with you too! Allez, on y va?
 |  |
Rain!!! I played golf today complete with flippers and snorkel, which was useful as several balls decided they were not wet enough and plunged into the lake!!
Should I pack a bottle or two of the local rouge? Or do you think a cubi or two would be better?
 |  |
and MAMACITA - you've got the wrong card, not Ted's!! And I can prove it...!
 |  |
At least a cubi GannieMo - we'll need it! But where we're going it won't rain, well it may, but it's a different sort of rain to this dreary stuff in south-west France!
 |  |
Oh wonderful to stand in rain of the same temperature as a shower. You will understand why I love visiting S E Asia cos all their showers are warm.
I've packed a sarong, swimsuit, sandals, sun hat, and, of course a tiara for evening wear. Is this OK
 |  |
Whats all this talk about cards? I thought where we are going we pay with seashells
 |  |
the tiara will go down just fine! (just don't tell Col or she'll think you're getting designs on the stateroom!) thought about a disguise too? these cruises are usually done while hiding behind a mask!
 |  |
ok Ted, one of our original gang, was the one who always paid for everything on his card - he has since gone, but his card was hidden by yours truly on the Sahara trip and so I will bring it out soon to pay for everything - planes, food, drink and the odd cabin boy! And don't listen to Mamacita - she's talking drivel - it's called havering where I come from!
 |  |
Sorry, didn't I tell you that my tiara has it's own veil which covers the face giving an aura of mystique. I just have to remember to raise it when eating or drinking or the food gets filtered.

Am I allowed to bring my fan wallah as I do like to be fanned on a hot sultry night on deck?
