Hey Bostonian, Do you want to chat? The other day when you asked me a question re NT, I didn't get to answer it.
 |  |
Thanks Ed. Finding those bands here in Perth may be a problem but I always have the option of buying on-line. It sometimes takes awhile for albums to work their way round to here. I'm waiting on Dave Gilmour's latest CD which was released last month or so in the UK.
 |  |
Ian, I like the cut of your suit.
 |  |
Ed, I agree - Ian is looking pretty sharp, is he not?
 |  |
Billy, Pink Floyd my favorite. As I'm sure you know the name came from two blues singers.
The new David Gilmore album is his best.
 |  |

To Billy and Ed: Thanks for the kind words. If there is any truth to them, it is precisely because I was fortunate enough to have had some good teachers.

 |  |
nal,
Forgive me for taking so long to thank you for the wonderful drinks and food I had at your house last night. I hope I didn't wake you. I am now rooting for the Heat in hopes I can do it again. It was a good thing I was there before Judy and Manacita or nothing would have been left for me. I'm sure they were mad when they got there. I know they still love me. Right?
 |  |
Ian Boston - so very well expressed, thank you.
I remember Susan AppleX posted much the same, but still they come- the teachers I mean!!
 |  |
A Floyd fan - woohoo! I am not obsessive about them as some of my friends are, but do love their stuff - a lot of nostalgia involved given my age.
I've heard snippets from On An Island and it does sound good
 |  |
Ian, I am sure I had some good teachers also, I was not a good student. It is very obvious you were and are a good student.
 |  |
Ian - I met up with my Eng Lit/Film studies teacher last month after 28 years - and he presented me with Vikram Seth's 'An Equal Music' - he was an amazing teacher who passed on to me a love of books and movies which I in turn have passed onto my daughters.
 |  |
Billy, I'm 63 and have seen Pink Floyd ar least 20 times. Once 3 nights in a row. Half of them Roger Walters was part of the band. His writing was missed more than his playing.
 |  |
Ed - the word is etcetera - shortened to etc not ect, If you can read this, thank a primary school teacher!!! Not a teacher, but couldn't resist!!
 |  |
azalias?
hey all
 |  |
I'm 45 Ed, but a good friend of mine used to babysit for Gilmour's children! I was meant to see Australian Pink Floyd at the Royal Albert Hall in April but couldn't make it - apparently the closest thing to the real thing - how I envy you having seen them so many times. My fav will always be Shine on You crazy Diamond.
 |  |
Ian, you do do your teachers proud with a well rounded argument to justify the original musings that teachers are no more intelligent, worthy of thanks or better remuneration than many other professions in our society.
 |  |
The full 16/17 minute version!!!
 |  |
Rosemary - hello!! Long time no chat - Hope you're good?
 |  |

Thanks, Rose. Your words are valued beyond many others. I think Innkeepers are the best of all, except Drill Sergeants.

Uh.....'from'.... it's et cetera, not etcetera. If you're the same 'from' who so often takes it upon him/herself to correct others, a bit of study may spare you some embarrassment.

 |  |
Actually in memory of my mother who died last year of breast cancer, I must praise her for teaching me to read.I was brought up on a station in the north west of WA and my mother educated all four of her children up to secondary school.None of us were behind the other kids when we went to secondary school. VALE Mum, you really were the greatest.
 |  |
No, not embarrassed Ian. My dictionary, which I must admit I looked up after reading your posting, uses just one word, however it is an American one !! No I don't usually correct other peoples' spelling, as this was the first time I have posted on this site, however I stand corrected and I will not do it again!
 |  |
mea culpa
 |  |

Which dictionary was that, 'from?' Just curious.

 |  |
Ian - Innkeepers got a bit of a bad rap, when was it...?? oh yes... Over 2000 years ago one of them happened to say 'no vacancies here but there's a stall out the back.'
 |  |
Hi Billy
yes long time no chat, pleased you are back on site and hope all is well with you. all rested after your terrific trip to england
 |  |
etcetera - four Hailmary's too!! But for goodness sake - no self-flagellation - quite painful from the looks of it in the Da Vinci Code.
 |  |
Rosemary - yes it has been a long time between postings and this site has certainly changed - so many new people and sorry to see so many have left. Had a great time in England and in hindsight wish I had hooked up with André- will do next time
 |  |
Ian, Thank you, I made a typo mistake, but had no idea et cetera was two words, so I learned many things today. I use Webster's New World Dictionary and it is shown as two words. I do not always write or think all that well, but I try to refrain from constantly showing my ignorance.
 |  |

To Fi: Sorry I missed you in the chatroom. Another time, I hope.

To Steph: Just curious...you said 'a myriad of.' Were you trying to start another one between me and 'from?' (Lost in archives somewhere, fortunately.)

 |  |
Billy, Shine On You Crazy Diamond was a tribute to original member, before Gilmore joined the band. His name is Syd Barrett, who also has some good albums.

I must apologize in advance for this one, for I'm no one to correct, but Ian you must stop do doing. Rosemary forgive me, I was kidding. I really was.
 |  |

Ed: Typos (typoes? Where's Dan Quayle when you need him?) and misspellings and errors are part of the routine here, and no big deal. As you may have noticed, it is only when someone unkindly and unnecessarily presumes to correct others, and is wrong himself (~herself), that I jump in.

Bullying and arrogance do provoke me, I'll admit it.

 |  |
Ian, I see no enter in the chatroom. Help someone
 |  |
Ed - there was a doco on Syd a few months back - did you know he was still alive?? I had presumed he had died because of the tributes the band had made to him, but I suppose to them he had 'died' as his head was so messed up due to the drugs.
 |  |
Etcetera, I'm glad that you took a name... and I hope that you keep contributing.

I think that your mother did a wonderful job to educate her children amongst all the other demands of a busy station life.

I have friends who grew up in similar isolation and struggled with literacy More...

Pretty fast today but I forgot to set the timer!
Not hydrangeas to me - my money goes on azaleas, tho I'm a self confessed non-gardener.
 |  |
Ian - His/her name is etcetera not 'from' and I don't think they were being bullying or arrogant or unkind. They were just correcting someone that the shortening is etc not ect and quite graciously accepted your version of the spelling without resorting to name calling.
 |  |
What the hell's a cluster fu.ck anyway? I dunno whether to be insulted or humbled!
 |  |
A police officer was waiting along the side of a highway waiting to catch speeding drivers. There weren't as many violators this day as usual.

The State Police Officer sees an old car puttering along at 22MPH.

He thinks to himself, 'This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!' More...
 |  |

Baz: it's a term which probably began in the military. Use your imagination...people standing around in a circle...a cluster, if you will...

 |  |
Thought you were going to bed Ian. Baz god of you to put that back seeing as Gath deleted the last one?
