Good Evening to Jamie, did I see the otherday that you are back teaching?

Since it is past Thanksgiving figured it is time to up date my U-tube for the Christmas Season - the house is almost decorated (no tree this year - since I'll be in LA.

mariane:
The formation of limestones is partly explained in the diagram associated with the link I posted.
If you are interested read up about how corals help to make limestone too.

mariane, post 77 about the progression of the last 3 generations from self-sufficient thrift to the world owes me a living was well put, and the way I see it, very accurate. By trying to make our children's lives better than our own, we've unwittingly gotten to a bad place.

I have been wondering about Ians doubt about whether polyicians are human. They look human - morphologically and anatomically, but mentally - well they perhaps can't be described as superhuman - maybe more some kind of subhumanoid form? Having said that - some are OK - but there again others are definitely NOT OK!

It may have something to do with big corporations being more successful than smaller self-contained and independent concerns.

I doubt if there has ever been a generation which has not bemoaned the terrible state of the next generation---including our parents and theirs. Somehow, we all muddle along.

Keith, if you are still about, it is almost like some welfare cycles - someone else will provide, so I don't need to bestir myself, and we are the welfare recipients.
My eldest son, from my first marriage, has done it hard, and I was able to give him very little financial assistnce. He has taken More...

Ian, I think things have changed a little. I may be a pessimist, but I think our generation may have seen the peak of affluence and what our beautiful earth can provide. Now with our financial markets teetering and the climate in crisis I fear we are slipping into a darker place. Hopefully our More...

Mariane, our financial markets have not only teetered before, they have imploded. We got over it.

The peak of affluence is not necessarily the peak of accomplishment, satisfaction, dignity, justice, or anything else.

1% or 2% of our children will make a difference, and that has More...

Perhaps more than that Ian.
In some cases those on benefit, in 'doing their own thing', achieve mre than those who are paid (even large) salaries.

Mariane,
Since I replied, earlier today, to your question about cement and its dust, I have partly remembered another way in which cement may play a role in the Global Warming scenario.
Someone has claimed that cement dust raised into the atmosphere has come to rest over polar ice to become More...

However (and as no-one else is posting for some time):
The cement dust in the atmosphere -
(some of which may have landed on the ice to contribute to perhaps result in the 'elevated' C02 values obtained from the ice-cores) -
- would also eventually decompose in 'acid rain' to provide atmospheric C02 (probaby to the same proportion as in the ice).
