Can you even wear white anything after Labor Day?
Surprising this ridiculous 'rule' hasn't bit the dust eons ago!
Shall we ALL wear white shoes to the JaneJam???
Well, maybe not... only if they go with your outfit! In other words, wear what you want, Plum! We'll just be happy to meet you no matter what you are wearing!

Shiela - that rule bit the dust decades ago in many of the warmer parts of the country. I mean, good grief, we have 90 degree weather here in October. Are we supposed to be wearing our woolies?

Cloudy here. Because it's after Labour Day, I'm wearing black (but my top has a white stripe, just because I like to thumb my nose at convention ...)

Re; my slow typing...

The current position is not the best. Try pushing your couch against the wall beside the window. Balance your laptop on the back of the couch. (the "air card" won't function anywhere else inside & it's a little cool to be outside) Sit sideways on the More...

Actually found my etiquette book. Shocker.
Emily Post has a lot to say about how to dress and who should wear what, but nothing is said about wearing white after Labor day.
I am sure if crocs were around in 1922, Emily would have been outraged with the thought of wearing socks with crocs.

Just found this cool site where you can vote on the "wearing white after Labor Day" issue. So far it's 525 to 52 in favor of ignoring the rule!!! Cast your vote here: http://www.fabsugar.com/4640032

Sarah - I haven't been checking email for most of the summer. The best private messages I've had are here in my inbox or on facebook. Reminds me to call my friend the computer geek and see if he can fix my laptop before Sunday!

Jane - the "new Easter outfit" has a very long history that goes back to the middle ages when converts to Christianity were baptized and expected to have a new set of clothes to symbolize the putting off of the old and the acceptance of new life in Christ.

Too bad the story got perverted into a show of vanity that was/is the exact opposite of what was intended.

There's some suggestion that wearing white was associated with summer leisure away from the city ("resort clothes") and that continuing to wear white into fall suggested a lack of focus on the business at hand. So, retirees, by that thinking, should be able to wear white year round!

Kathy - I've actually got a closet that is mostly plum purple. Go figure. The easiest thing in the world for me to wear would be purple with white shoes (if you count white athletic shoes). It's just about my daily uniform.

Good morning. Today is the first day of school in my area so we are off to the beach. It is the "We're not going back to school" beach party for our homeschool group. I think the weather is going to cooperate for us. It has been cool and rainy the past few days.

As a kid, I always looked forward to a new Easter outfit. I remember one dress that I absolutely loved. It was made of that stiff organza material and boy, did it itch!!
Thanks, Plum. I never knew how the custom came about.
