My goodness, Plum, you asked a simple question and look at all the stuff I have learned today on just what shoes mean.

I also learned, through a mental inventory of my shoes, that out of all of them I only own one pair of white shoes. And yes, Jane, they are my sneakers. But they are off white, not true white.

OH, wow all this chatter and I wheed over to the next page.

I probably have as many shoes as Imelda once did, yet I'm barefoot 99% of the time. I wonder what the significance of that is. Hmmmmmm.....

My bare feet used to bug Jaime. When we were first married he said disdainfully that "only servants go barefoot". But after 40 years, he's gotten used to it.

As Robert Heinlein once said: "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should just relax and get used to the idea."

...and since dinner is now ready, I'll be padding into the kitchen to serve... Ta ta!

Well, this just sucks big green apples. Man prepares dinners around here. He has to because if it were up to me, we would have sandwiches and cereal all the time.
Well, Man is outside looking at his grill and calls me and asks/tells me to make some veggies. He has his nerve.

Victoria - I was thinking about making a big deal about that here at home when it's 9:09 on 09/09/09 in my time zone. You get major points for making this post in Sudokuland time!

Plum - I had my post ready and waiting to send since about 8:50. I just kept an eye on my computer while I did other things. Luckily the time on my computer is slightly out because it read 09:10 just as I hit submit.

Well done Vicki! The radio announcer I was listening broke into a conversation just to do the exact same thing.

My kids are having a 09/09/09 celebration at school tomorrow....

This would not be so special, except they did not get to watch "Brock The Bama" (as my youngest calls our president) address this morning. They were told it could not be fit in to today's agenda, but it was recorded and will be viewed at a later time.

When did "suck" become an acceptable word in everyday language? I'm not talking about the mechanical context ("Sorry, this pump just doesn't have the power to suck the water out of your basement"), but the pejorative one..."This program really sucks."

I'm surprised you'd ask Ian. I would have thought you would be familiar with the care and feeding of a standard handybilly. Bilge water does have to be moved from one place to another 'pon occasion. Some of us have always considered bilge water to be a pejorative.(Insert communicative emoticon (pictograph) of your choice)

Well, it's a very graphic word which has a known context, like its counterpart, which begins with a different consonant. I don't think it would have been 'acceptable' as recently as ten years ago. Is that all part of the degradation that we have been talking about today?

09/Sep/09 11:40 AM

But in this case, jeb, the bilge has been transferred into the potable water supply, not over the side. Didn't do much for the trim, just fouled the fresh water tanks. More's the pity.

I always though that it had something to do with an act which performed a similar function to the the rhyming word which starts with a different consonant. If you don't know what I'm talking about ask Hugh Grant.

I always thought that you didn't wear white shoes in the winter, because of the mud on the sidewalks got them dirty, and Patient leather ones because the heat cracked them. I haven't lived in SF for 50 years, but I doubt anyone thinks people in white shoes are tourists.

I have never worn white shoes after I was told they make your feet look bigger - my feet don't need any external aid to do that
