Easiest 'tough' puzzle ever! First one I ever did without needing to guess!
 |  |
Hi Peter from London,
could you indicate some steps of your way solving this puzzle without guessing? I have my own way, but not that simple, and you may have found an easier one, which would be profitable to everyone here.

Ok - so I started over, and now I'm up to 42!!...and stuck again. Still, 2006 may be a little pessimistic now....
gb - loving your work!
 |  |
gb - I cant find your sandbox - can you give me the link/address please? tar :o)
 |  |
Keep on, Deb (and if definitely stuck, look at 2 and 3 in Bh5...)
 |  |
Deb : http://brunogreco.free.fr/bazar/sudoku/
(you can also follow 'proofs' link top page).
 |  |
gb - I'm looking at that row - and I have going left to right...
4 2/3 8 5 9 1 6 2/3 7
I'd already taken 2/3 out of the far left box and the far right box (I need your sandbox to talk rows/columns in proper gb speak!)
I'm trying to work through your solution to see how I could do it better....
 |  |
Oops - I didnt mean cleared 2/3 from far left middle box - cos. I only got one set of 2/3 in that. Just in far right middle box - I have all the other numbers filled in, in that box too.

Deb, Bh5 is Block center right. I have in this block:
23,5,148
6,23,7
239,2349,148
So in bottom left of this block, erase 2/3 : it's a 9...
And thanks making the effort of getting Andrei's notation !

Got it!!!!!!! and its till Monday (here anyway) and its still 2005....I live to fight another day
 |  |
gb - I had the Bh5 block sorted, it was trying the next step to G8 I was trying to get my head around. Once I did - it all flowed. Thanks for your help.

gb: I believe you have a typo in step 3. You said
'Look at 5 in Be2. Whether it is in Cd (in which case d5=8%cell), or it is in e2 (in which case h2=1%cell)..'. Last part should read '(in which case g2=8%cell)'.
Apart from that, your proof is brilliant! How in the world do you find what to More...
 |  |
Hi Larry, you're perfectly right for the typo ! My automatic proof translator is still perfectible...
As for step 5 : when you're stuck, what do you do? try harder, what else. Remember I studied the position on 09/12 puzzle and it took me ages : I certainly wrote in 09/12 comments that this was no easy...
 |  |
Remember also that I use a selfmade-easy-to-write program for easy eliminations. May I mention the tip that I use after that : 'odd-agons', explanations soon to come in my sandbox. The more sides the oddagon, the tougher to find. step 3 is a pentagon, step 5 is a 11-agon !
I'm still looking for More...
 |  |
Sorry, another mistake : step3 is a 7-agon (Xwing and hidden pairs are pentagons).
 |  |
big thanks Larry !
Thanks to your questioning I've found a simpler step 5 (9agon instead of 11agon)! Goes like this :
5) Look at two only places for 2 in Ch : Whether h7=2 (in which case g7=5%cell) or h5=2 (in which case b5=3%cell and a4=5%cell) : a7=6%cell. Now easy eliminations lead to unique solution.
