Another good photo by Keyan

Pretty wide creek,I'd call it a river at least.
 |  |
9:34 one bad guess
 |  |
Struggled for a while on this one ... have a great day, everybody!
 |  |
Keyan,

How do you afford to travel so many exotic places?
 |  |
To go with so many cat photos, shouldn't this at least have been a 'cat'amaran?
 |  |
Good Maen to all! Challenging puzzle, but found out that Gath is hiding those exotic pictures from around the world on Tough! Nice picture!!
 |  |
I don't see the cat. Where is it?
 |  |
The cat is playing Sudoku on the quarterdeck!
 |  |
Later today I will probably publish a depth 8 proof to yesterday's puzzle - on yesterday's archive.
 |  |
Clever. I like it.

I like the exotic travel pictures too, Greg, but for a dose of good cheer, which I sure could use today, there's nothing like a cat (or dog/horse/rabbit/deer...)
 |  |
To Cathy in s. ont. .... wishing you all the cheer in the world! Do hope you aren't too down in the midst of this wonderful (hot and humid) summer. And by the way .....Cheers!! ..Greg

Thanks, Canuk Greg--you're a gem. Just a little health scare here, got me feeling a bit nervous. Still, onward with positive thoughts (even though it's raining outside now and my golf game is cancelled!) I'll be telling my husband Anne's jokes when he gets home, so there's some laugh potential! mAen

Pat has submitted an ingenious proof to yesterday's puzzle. I believe that one can benefit greatly by studying it in great depth.
 |  |
after all, possible for me,eliminations,impossibilities can be proven by trial and error in pairs,and the solution is established
 |  |
Not a very good proof today:

1) Start at 23 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 25 filled. (UP 25).
2) Hidden pair 17 at a3b2 forbids a3=256 and b2=2459 UP 43
3a) fc on 3's:
c8=3 c7=3
e8=2 e7=3 e2=3
h1=3 0000 f1=3
forbids h8=3
3b) df1=9 == c1=9 -- c1=5 More...

Pat

I checked your proof from yesterday. Little known PPPE test? I googled it unsuccessfully. Where do we find the proof of the PPPE proof? It is not intuitively obvious.. at least to me.
 |  |
I always seem to get stuck on the Tough when I've filled in about 20-25 squares. I just can't seem to find the break point for the others. I assume the proofs are working on a grid reference for the squares? Great picture from Keyan again - and I love them all - though I agree with Cathy of Southern Ontario about the cheerfulness of peaceful domesticity at times! mAen all!

10:56. Not my personal best, but the picture is great.

Who IS that lady above the timer?!
 |  |
Nice dhow! Taken in Australia? Lost some resolution on the photo, I see. It's hard to get them down to 50kb and maintain the whole range.
 |  |
15:39 such great photos from around the world.
 |  |
maeN, all.

Took me one guess...I thought I might manage without, but I got bored after staring at the partially solved thing for several minutes.

Yes, Martha, it did lose resolution -- I haven't figured a good way to edit the pix down to 50kb (actually, they need to be about 45 for More...

Better proof:
1) Start at 23 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 25 filled. (UP 25).
2) Hidden pair 17 at a3b2 forbids a3=256 and b2=2459 UP 43
3a) fc on 3's:
c8=3 c7=3
e8=2 e7=3 e2=3

forbids h8=3
3b) df1=9 == c1=9 -- c1=5 == h1=5 -- h5=5 == More...
 |  |
I'm a few days late to this one, but I found a proof that uses unique rectangles:

1) Start 23, unique possibilites to (UP) 25.
2) Hidden pair 67 at a35 forbid a3=125, a5=5. UP 43.
3) g4=5 -- g4=9 == e4=9, and g4=5 -- g23=5 == h1=5 -- h1=3 == f1=3, so g4=5 -> e4=9 and f1=3. e4=9 More...
