1. 22 given. To UP24 on the given; UP28 with SSTs.
2. E-e-e-owch. A 53-brick wall. What's it gonna take to crack this one? Thanks, Gath. (Unless somebody sees something I don't.)

Regards to all,
Brenda

Well, that's 52 minutes of my life I'll never get back! Either that was quite a tough one or I'm off my game today.

1. Actually SSTs go to 31.
2. But it’s still a 50-brick wall.
3. & 4. With 2 ridiculously long chains to contradictions I could get to UP33 and UP34 (I think).
? . But I’m looking for something shorter and/or more interesting (since I don’t seem to be capable yet of seeing something More...

Agree with Brenda. Several locked pais get you to 31. 17 and 45 in the bottom left; 13 in the top right and 89 in the middle left. Also 17 in row 2. But then ... brick wall.

Hi Brenda.Here's my attempt:
1. Note pairs 89 at a6/c5;17 at a23;and later 17 at ah2;78 at d3/e1.Unique possibilities to 32.
2. If g5=6,f5=2,b5=7.Also g5=8=h1,e1=7=d4 makes b5=7.UP33.
3. If c5=9=e6,e5=2=f7,c7=8=e8=d3,d4=7=e1,e9=4,d9=6,a7=3;c9 has no candidate.Hence c5=8.UP39.
4. If b6=2=a6,a7=8=d6=e1=g3,f6=6,e5=4=g1=c2,d2=5=e4;e8 has no candidate.So h6=2.UP81.

You don't go to Grandma's house to look at her garden for cat's sake. You go to Grandma's for cookies and milk and other stuff you mother won't let you have whenever you want. Good Grief.

Hi Brenda and Kate. UP 32 is d5=1,because of locked 1s at hi4 and d3=78,d2=45.

Thanks,Alfred.

1) Start at 22, basic techniques to UP=32
2) (1)b9=g9-(1=3)g8-f8=(3-2)g7=(2)e9,=>b9<>2
3) (2)e9=(2-9)a9=a6-c5=(9)e5,=>e5<>2
4) (7)b5=e5-d4=(7-8)d3=d7-c7=(8-9)c5=(9)e5,=>e5<>7.UP=40
5) YW: (6=3)c7-(3=4)a9-(4=6)d9,=>df7<>6.UP=42
6) (4)e6=(4-2)b6=(2-8)h6=h1-e1=(8)e8,=>e8<>4.UP=81

Hi and thanks Alfred

But I’m having a little trouble with your step 4 there. b6=2=a6 can’t be for a couple of reasons, I think. d6 can’t be 8 on my grid. It would be d7=8 that would make e1 & g3=8, but then a7=8, as you have it, couldn’t co-exist. I guess it was supposed to be a7=2? More...

And thanks, Sotir, especially for the practice in seeing YWings.

But could you help me with the Eureka notation, or typos?

In step 1), after the g8-f8, you’ve got g7, which is no longer in play on my grid. Was that supposed to be f7?

In step 6), after the h6, it just says, “=h1-e1=. Is the (8) assumed there because it was the last number?

Regards,
Benda

Hi Brenda. You are right ofcourse.Every now and then I revert to chess notation mode,where the board is 8x8. a6 should read a7;a7 should read a8;d6 should read d7.Thanks for picking this up.
Regards, Alfred.

Thanks Brenda. Step 1: =(3-2)g7= should read =(3-2)f7.
Step 6: you are right, =h1-e1= means =(8)h1-(8)e1=
As for notations:
1)Old used chess board notation
2)Now used chess board notation.
3)Eureka notation.
To express these three notations (for eg.step 5 above):
1)YW: More...
