Could only get to UP28 today:
1. Pairs 68 at a9/b8;34 at h2/i1.a7=7.Unique possibilities to 24.
2. If i6=2,h4=4,i3=6,g3=5,h2=3=g7;middle right box is devoid of 3.So i8=2.UP25.
3. If i7=1,i3=6,g3=5,g7=3.So e7 is not 3.e9=3.UP26.
4. If a4=6=i6,a9=8;column i is devoid of 8.So a4=28.
5. If a4=2,h4=4=i1,i9=8,a9=6.Also,a4=8 makes a9=6.UP28.

Hi All, My progress so far - a very difficult one, and I would appreciate any comments (good or bad) on the following:

1)Start at UP=23, basic techniques to UP=26
2)(6=8)a9-(8=4)i9-(4=3)i1-(3=4)h2-(4=2)h4-(2)a4=(68)a49=>a12<>6
3)(9)a3=(9-3)a1=(3) More...

Here's my complete but hideous solution:

1) Basics to UP 26
2) If a9=8, then i9=4, i6=8, h2=4, g4=6
and hence h4=a4=2 - a contradiction. Therefore
a9=6. UP 28
3) If c3=2, then a4=2, h4=4, d5=4, d2=2, h2=3, a2=8, e3=8. At this point we have a contradiction on column e, because More...

All, Please note my Step 7 was incorrect as stated - thanks to Alfred for pointing this out to me. Best regards, Neil

Great solution Jyrki! Your chains are short compared to some of my clumsy efforts.
{Small typo in your step 5): a3=2 (not 9).Then 28 have no place in column e, after e6=7.}
Regards,Alfred.

Alfred! You're right, of course. IIRC I was thinking via a1=9, a3=2, etc, and skipped that part via a1. I am delighted that you took the trouble of checking the validity of that monster.

May be we should look at chains other than those resolving a dual choice?

I try to look for other things but sometimes that dual choice is just so juicy. I thought of this as my Christmas present, and then I thought I had a mistake. I spent two days working around the mistake only to realize I didn't have a mistake. Oh well, it was fun anyhow:

1) After the More...

Hi and Happy New Year to all --

Alfred found a typo in step 3: It was supposed to end with e6=2 (not 9). Hopefully with that fix it will be OK.

Brenda

1.SST to UP26
2.(6=8)a9-i9*=(8-6)i6=g4

..**=(3)i1-h2=a2 > -6a124
