Basic techniques to UP29. Note 37 in ac8, 35 in hi1 as well as 35 in i17.

Only one chain is needed. If h8=9, then f8=5, and the top middle box gives: 38 in d79, so e9=2, e7=7 and f7=6. This creates a contradiction on column f (f6 is the only cell that can contain 2 AND 3). Therefore h8=5. UP 81

Hi Jyrki.I only got to UP27 in step 1. Then e6=2,whether f8=2 or 5.Then UP81 (after triple 148 at ach9;d9=3 etc.).

Alfred!

You're right! Looking at my saved board I had i9=g4=6 in there that I cannot explain at the moment! IIRC I fumbled a saved board when toying with an idea involving the 267 group on the top row. I must have made an incomplete recovery of the grid. I think that my chain still works out as explained, but that is sheer luck.

OTOH your proof is soooo pretty!

1) Start at 22,basic techniques to UP=27
2)YW-style:((5=3)d4-f6=f7-(3=5)i7,=>d7<>5.UP=81

Thanks Jyrki, for the compliment.Not being very computer literate,I had to look up OTOH on Google.BTW (Dave from Minnesota enlightened me on the meaning of BTW not that long ago),both you and Sotir make i7=35. How do you reach that conclusion?
Regards,Alfred.

Alfred: after a8, c8 = 37
a9 =148,c9=148, d9=38, h9=134, therefore i9 =67 and i7 must be 35

Alfred, not at all - as you noted above at 1am this morning, you don't need this obvious deduction any way. I just wish I could have easily seen the e6=2. I always read your comments after I've done the puzzle and try and work through them to improve my skills - they are always very helpful and (for me) relatively easy to follow.

An alternative solution:

after UP=27, XYZ-Wing (3)d9=(np35)di7=>f7<>3, UP=81.
Best regards, Neil

For those not familiar with the Eureka notation,Sotir is saying:
If d4=3=f7,i7=5;or d4=5.So d7 is not 5.
Neil is saying:
If d9=8,pair 35 at di7;or d9=3.So f7 is not 3.

Alfred,,

01:20, 10:39, 16:47 and 18:38 were your posting times today - don't you ever sleep, or are you having good knights in the early morning doing your astronomy?

Bst regards,

Neil
