Just came back from covering up our tender plants. We have 3 huge Monstera deliciosa plants (aka split-leaf philodendron, aka swiss-cheese plant), and they've all taken a hit from our sub-freezing temps. Fortunately, they seem to bounce back during the day, but some of the leaves are definitely damaged. When is that awful weather going to end????

Hello everyone, Happy first birthday to Emmett.
We are back to the drizzling rain here after a couple of very hot days. Jerry, Judy and Daplap had me laughing so much hubby came in to see what it was all about and now he's gone off laughing.

The weather gurus have predicted yet another 9 days of sub-zero weather, and the media are suggesting deaths of up to 60,000 - which seems a little ridiculous and far-fetched to me.

Our solar panels have been installed, our meter is running backwards, power is feeding into the grid (and we'll get paid for it). Woo Hoo! It's a warm sunny day here, that helps.

A young couple left the church and arrived at the hotel where they were spending the first night of their honeymoon. They opened the champagne and began undressing. When the bridegroom removed his socks, his new wife asked, 'Ewww-what's wrong with your feet? Your toes look all mangled and More...

When I posted,

For the more "experienced" among us, this may bring back memories... (for the rest of you, consider it a history lesson)

on the first page, I forgot to include the "link" I intended.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow........

Amelia,
I think I am very well organised with stocks of food (touched wood by scratching head).
I need some eggs. I hope the hens are still laying and their oviducts are not frozen up.

What's for dinner?

How about Cheese & Crackers, with popcorn for dessert...

Hey! Am I a great menu planner, or what?

Question for the day (besides the whereabouts of saylz: where is he, anyway?): if you were to name a film that most characterizes the 1960s, what would it be?
11/Jan/10 2:57 PM
 |  |

I just got a PM from saylz. He's OK. He was telling me about a wonderful Standardbred foal that one of his mares just had. The bloodlines are very exciting.

I am awake again - or should I say, I am out of bed, not sure on the awakeness. Not working tonight, so will head off to bed relatively early rather than sleep lots this afternoon and then have difficulty sleeping tonight.

oops it's past midnight so and I had better get to bed soon. Jerry and Daplap, thanks for the jokes! I love the governmentium element! Too bad it's not rare...

Ah - CP beat me to it. I had thought of To Sir with Love, as well. Great minds, CP, and all that. Unfortunately the Oz film industry was non-existent in the '60's so there's nothing to choose from there!

anne.... I wasn't even a twinkle in my daddy's eye in the 1960's, so I'll pass on answering your question today =)

Was Alvin Purple 60's, Cyn? Only Aussie film I can remember from that era - not that I saw it, but from talk about it in later years....
11/Jan/10 6:52 PM
 |  |

CP - I think it was '70's - and not an Aussie film to be proud of! These days it's cringe-worthy to say the least. I saw a few moments of it on TV not so long ago.
I just remembered a great Aussie film from the late 60's (or at least that's when it was set) - 'Don's Party' - I can identify with that. I was at a similar party on that election night!!!

everyone!
WOW!! what temperature contrast we have here in Melbourne today compared those winter chills in USA & UK - the temperature got to 43C (110F) at 4.30pm and at the current time 10.17pm it is still 37C (99F) xx

And I am going to be in Melbourne next week!!! (Actually I was in Melbourne over 40 years ago when my youngest was born and it was a tad hotter than that!)
11/Jan/10 11:05 PM

Jaz - 37C??? Do you have air-con??
11/Jan/10 11:09 PM
 |  |

The temp has dropped to 36C now This is the hottest day since Black Saturday, 11 months ago, when 173 people perished in those awful bushfires. As you can imagine people are very nervous here.

June, the forecast for next week is mid 20C so it will be very pleasant for your visit :)

CynB, Thankfully I have air-con but it is working overtime LOL
