In the good old USA (Nov. 10th)- it is to the Marines born in 1775 (formed in a pub in Boston). My hubby would have been 71 today. So hum the marine anthem and then check out my video for the 11th.

everyone!

The U.S.'s Veteran's Day is on Wednesday, the 11th. According to my calendar, Canada's and the UK's Remembrance Day is on that day also. Although, the UK had Remembrance Sunday on the 8th. Slightly confusing.

Here is the puzzle for this month from Mensa. I do not know the answer, since it will not be posted until next month. It is solvable, but may take some strenuous mental gymnastics!

The two most common keypads are the telephone and the calculator. Why on Earth are the numbers reversed, with one having the high numbers at the top and the other at the bottom?

For the record, I solved the puzzle awhile ago - AND I DID NOT CHEAT!!! What's the fun in that???

Ian, we still have a rotary phone in our den, kind of like the one in "Sorry, Wrong Number"--adds to the ambiance--we love that thing, and it weighs a ton. Also have a rotary dial on our kitchen wall, an old box phone that was retrofited with a dial inside--we speak into one of those black mouthpieces.

November 11th is a National Public Holiday here in France with services of remembrance held at the War Memorial in every village and town throughout the country. In this village the names of the dead from WW1 fill 3 sides of the memorial. They lost almost half their menfolk. This is repeated in many other villages. It is no wonder, really, that they were loathe to enter into combat in WW 2

Mo, I guess when be say they'll be back in a jiffy they must be super fast, sort of like those you run into on the telephone when you get put on hold!

GMo - Regarding your note on almonds and peaches, the Italian liqueur Amaretto and the Amaretti di Saronno cookies are flavored with apricot pits - not almonds. (Apricots being, of course, in the same family as peaches and almonds)
