Plum, both Canada and the US have lobbied the Haitian government to allow all children whose adoptions were previously approved out of the country ASAP. We are expecting a number (not sure how many yet) here in Canada within a few days, and three who have already been legally adopted in Canada More...

Just for the fun of it....

Why do ducks have webbed feet?
To stamp out fires.

Why do elephants have flat feet?
To stamp out burning ducks.

Thyra, that is one calm cat! My cat used to love to play with the Christmas bows, but it would have gotten ugly if I tried to stick one on his head, let alone wrap him in paper!

Thyra, that was so cute! If I hadn't put my wrapping paper away...
(Actually, I bet my Tuxedo WOULD let me... he seems to like anything I do to him! ...except whistle. He hates whistling! In fact, he'll meow in a cussing tone at me first, then put his paw on my lips if I don't stop, and then bite me if I ignore that. Ever try to whistle while laughing???)

Thyra, I am astounded that your cat tolerated the bow being put on its head. Our cat (SP Siamese) used to turn into a supersonic whirlwind of claws and paws if anything stuck to its fur, particularly a small piece of cellotape. It was a guaranteed way of clearing the humans out of the room.

BTW, we're back - from three weeks touring with friends around southern NSW and northern Victoria. Lots of adventures and fun - and heat. Thank goodness for air conditioning in the motorhome.

CG - the burning ducks joke is my all time favorite. I mentioned the couple my daughter Starr knows from her time in NY. I have a friend who knows a local couple who are hoping to soon be united with their adoptive Haitian child, and others who are applying to adopt.

Good morning all.
Colo Jim - anyone who's ever had a teenager can identify with this one - 11. Definition of a teenager? God's punishment...for enjoying sex.
My revenge is that within a couple of years both of my (former teenage) children will have teenagers of their own. (Cue sadistic laugh!)

Colo Jim, I resemble the remark - 4. My mind works like lightning, One brilliant Flash and it is gone! That and "I have a photographic memory, I just lack the film!" I just wish I could be the one to say - "I refuse to have a duel of wits with an unarmed person!"

My family plays a word game called Headed and Beheaded that is the same as Fiona's puzzle. Some words keep working as the initial letter is removed, as in Start, Tart, Art, so we call those Headed, Beheaded, and Be-Necked. We play in the car or whenever a good Headed and Beheaded occurs to us.

Thanks for the welcome back. There are 17 new photos in my gallery.
It is HOT today, just under 41ºC (105ºF). Tomorrow is forecast to be 43ºC (109).
Thank goodness for air conditioning.
My single aim on a hot day is to live through it.

"Ah," she says, being up in the middle of the night because her electric blanket was too hot, "it is supposed to get up to 44ºF this weekend here, and it is a veritable heat wave for us. Wish we could mingle your summer and our winter, but that would probably really mess things up, climatologically."
