What fun! I remember Howdy Doody. Watched it all the time. Sorry, Jeb. It was Princess Summerfall Winterspring. She started out as a puppet then an actress played her in later shows.

Laundry is done now it's time to pack and get ready for my long weekend trip north for a convention. My afternoon and evening are already filled to capacity & I'm suppose to be resting to be sure that I don't come down with the flu/cold - or whatever I've been fighting for a week.

THE GOLFER

Arthur is 90 years old. He's played golf every day since his retirement 25 years ago.

One day he arrives home looking downcast.

"That's it," he tells his wife. "I'm giving up golf. My eyesight has gotten so bad that once I've hit the ball I couldn't More...

Andre, as usual you have posted a thought-provoking idea, this time about about memory. Maybe both short and long term memories are very important in determining identity; and I also wonder sometimes the extent to which consciousness itself is dependent on memory.

Jane, I concede the match to you. I don't know anything about tennis and would never try to one-up you on that score. Brilliant!

Keith has the right attitude here, so to express the end of an era, enjoy what CG has enlightened me with on YouTube via my page. A total shift in loyalties.

A horrible story which appeared on my Earthlink news tickler today!! Yikes, here in Florida we have to watch out for alligators who go after pets. The python scenario in Brisbane seems even worse. Have any of you in Oz ever spotted any pythons?

Kathy that story has put me off my dinner. I really dislike snakes. urghh
28/Feb/08 5:08 AM

Jeb, did you convince your parents to get a Bendix?

Kathy, sure is nice to know they didn't want to remove that family pet for fear of hurting the snake.

No, but my my bike had a Bendix coaster brake.

Now,since there isn't a cloud in the sky, the temp is hovering about 50 deg. F and there isn't a breath of breeze, I'm off to the golf course. The weather has held us prisoner long enough.

BUMPS IN THE NIGHT

Some things that bump in the night -
are scary and give us a fright.
If we can answer “What’s that;
an owl, cat, or bat?”,
everything then seems alright.

But shivering and feeling alone,
one kind of bump stayed unknown.
“It could More...

According to the site birthday monitor, nobody is having a birthday today. Very unsual, but I guess parents were waiting for March (no, for gosh sakes don't push. Just be patient). I just want to wish nobody, not me or you, a happy birthday, but I'll say it just in case there was at least one person in the world born today.

MizT, that is Jeb's Rootie Kazootie on his page, and it is too bad you don't have sound, as the video demonstrates how children's shows (even in the early 1950's) were geared towards advertising to parents through their children.

Sob! I had a very deprived childhood. My father wouldn't allow a TV in the house until my brother, sister and I were all in high school. I do remember watching Howdy Doody occasionally at a neighbor's house, but I never got to see Rootie Kakootie (never even heard of him actually) or Mr. Rogers. Waaaaaaaaaaah!
