GREG, I have sound on my computer. I mis spoke, I should have said I did not get sound on that clip.

YEP, Howdy Doody was the first UA programing that figured out children had some say in how family spent money. Their early advertisers included Eonder bread ads targeted at the children.

Greg, glad to hear he was there for Canadian children, too. I haven't found the Sweater Day YouTube yet, but I did find another very nice tribute accompanied by a very beautiful song. It is now on my page. Jane, if you'd like, you can go meet Mr. Rogers, one of the sweetest gentlest guys you could ever know (well, except for Jaime, maybe!)

Kathy - Just visited your page to check out the tribute to Mr. Rogers (which was very moving) and saw Rob's eclipse pictures. Beautiful!

Hey Kathy, that story of yours on page 2 of a python swallowing a family pet appears to be true. I've just watched a segment on 'Sunrise', a local morning TV programme which showed the snake with a dog-shaped bulge in it. Thank goodness we don't live in Tropical Australia.

One of the most colorful political commentators in US history - Bill Buckley - passed away today at 82. A story on him on my AT&T home page ended with the following:

"Mr. Buckley," one non-fan wrote in 1967, "you are the mouthpiece of that evil rabble that depends on More...

Another favorite Buckleyism: When asked what he would have done had he won his bid for Mayor of New York City, he responded, "I would have asked for a recount".

Kathy, when I lived in Queensland I saw a python approaching a sleeping magpie. My friend picked up a stone and threw it at the magpie which was most indignant at being woken up, and still seemingly unaware of its extended life span. The python slid away presumably to find another meal.

Hi Dino! Been meaning to ask if you have seen Ecie since your return to Australia? I go to her website now & then to check on her progress, but I'm not sure if she is in a place near where you are? I have marvelled at her recovery & her husband's well-written & compassionate reports.

Hi Mamacita - just now caught on to your "Howdy Neighbors" comment - a blended reference to both Howdy Doody & Mister Rogers Neighborhood. You clever girl! How's your weather up in Philly? We're COLD down here in FL -course anything below 50 makes us Floridians feel cold!

Kathy, Ecie is in New Zealand which is a four hour flight across the ocean. So I haven't been to visit her. It is so moving to read William's blogs. I hope they become a book one day because he gives so much insight into the trauma and drama of recovering form such a serious accident. And as we More...

dino - Tragically, there was a head-on collision last night on the causeway leading to St. Simons, resulting in a death. The other person involved is in critical condition. We've had, I think, seven fatalities on our causeway in the past year. Major work was done recently to increase the width More...

Good morning all - 1.41 for puzzle (1-9 for me too)

Kathy, about the python, that happened in Kuranda, near Cairns in NQ. It was probably reported by a Brisbane News service (we're 1500kms south). That said, we do grow up learning to look for snakes and which are safe and which are not. We have a carpet snake that lives around our place - no worries.

CynB - although you guys seem to have some of the scariest creatures (pythons, killer octopi and jellyfish, etc.), you also have all those incredibly adorable marsupials! Our only marsupe is a really, really ugly rat-tail opossum.

Hi Kathy...Glad Someone caught it after the discussion...lol. Yes, I know, you are cold in Florida when we think its spring weather....lol. Jane - Like you, we had a fatal accident not far from us last night. Same story, the council and the state Govt won't do what is necessary to make the roads around here safer. We are a rural pocket, and are considered so by authorities, but our roads are short cuts to get to or from the bayside suburbs and the main arterial north-south Highway, so we have quite a high traffic flow.

Jane - I think we all learn as we grow up not to go into the bush without closed in shoes on and that if you just leave snakes alone they will just go on their way. We also learn not to swim in tropical waters during box jellyfish season and definately not to swim in tropical rivers and estuaries where the crocs live.

Nice to see Dooley again. Yesterday I had to send my darling Meg to doggy heaven. She was a 14½ year old White Swiss Shepherd who was my devoted companion. I have no motivation to do anything today.

Oh Kate, I feel for you about Meg.
5 years ago when we were packing to move house, we had to put our 17yo German Shepherd down. All packing and cleaning stopped for the rest of the day. I've got tears in my eyes now just thinking about it. I miss her.

Kate, I was so sorry to read about Meg. There is nothing more heartbreaking than to have to take a beloved pet to the vet's for the last time. I've had to do it and I hate it. You have my sympathy and deep understanding.

Oh, Kate, I am so sorry. It's the hardest thing to have to do. You know it's the right thing, but it doesn't make it easy because the pain for you just begins. My heart goes out to you.
