Carol, the shark was killed, then donated to the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota for future study. Previous record was 991 pounds. They believe that because of the extreme weight & girth she may have been pregnant. A necropsy will be done within the next few weeks to confirm or deny that. Mote More...

Celia from Toronto - have you ever commented before? If not, welcome to our world of sudoku lovers! And you are eligible to be in our Nifty Sixties Club, too. What day did you turn 60? We are in the process of compiling a very large birthday list. I don't ride but all my daughters did, & we More...

LISA from Northern Ontario; have you tried Lee Childs?

I am a medical secretary, currently convalescing fromn surgery for bilateral breast cancer and about to have radiotherapy for 6 weeks. Let me tell you all it is not nearly as bad as it is made out to be, just make sure you have those mammograms.
Incidentally James Whistler, an American born More...

Celia/Toronto; no, I have not heard of Lee Childs. I assume since you suggest him/her, he/she is similar to the authors I have listed. Are they fast-paced books but without the predictable endings? I hate when I figure it all out before finishing the book. Can you suggest that author's best titles? :o)

Good on ya mom, and good luck - didn't drone on about yourself, I like your spirit !! I also liked the fact that you didn't drone on about James Whistler - as you said google it. It is the modern equivalent of 'look it up' that our parents and teachers, used to tell us, using dictionaries, encyclopaedias, library resources etc.

It is really dry in Calgary, hence the kidney stone capital. At least I went to the right hospital; this one treats all kidney stones in southern Alberta. Luckily there were no nurses carrying carnations! They treated me very well.
Thanks for the good wishes; the worst is behind me .. so to speak.

Kathy, I commented some weeks back but got caught in the crossfire when the site got a wee bit nasty so retreated till now. Thanks for welcoming me. March 9. Alas, no, don't own a horse. Not likely I'll ever be able to, but am considering part-boarding options. Entered my first competition a couple More...

Whistler's Mom - glad you are coming along so well after your breast surgery. Bet it helps that you are already familiar with lots of medical terminology & procedures, so you can understand better than most people what the drs. & technicians, etc. are talking about!

Off to watch the BB game now. Good maeN all.

The player who you were asking about is Gael Monfils. He is ranked 28 in the world

Kathy, I'm a 40-something college student that is currently substitute teaching. This is my 1st year doing so. Right now I'm teaching 7th & 8th grade on a 'long term' assignment. It is not my chosen profession, but I am enjoying myself. Unfortunately, the 2 subjects I'm teaching are possibly More...

Hi Mel! Guess Gael wouldn't be happy that I thought he was a woman -ha ha! I'll be watching for him. Meet Celia, a new tennis fan among us!
Carol - forgot to tell you that Valrico is on the outskirts of Tampa (Celia, I'm not too far from your Mom over in Largo!)

Lisa from Toronto,
Harlan Corben is another writer to try, if you haven't already. I've read several (if not all) of Lee Childs & would recommend hime as well. For the record, I'm an office adminstrator/bookkeeper. I was introduced to Sudoku by me sister-in-law & found this site by chance. I actually find it easier to do this way than in a book.

I too garden, after living in a condo for 24 yrs, bought a house 3 years ago with a lovely pie shaped lot in back. Many flowering trees, shrubs and perenials. Of course lots of work comes with this, but it is satisfying.
For those of you who love the outdoors, Calgary More...

Just to start another train of conversation, does anyone else have pet grammatical peeves? I was having this discussion with someone recently. I don't know if it's a uniquely Australian thing, but I hate it when people say 'I done' or 'I seen' instead of I have done/seen or I did/saw.

to vlc, Melbourne
I too find the puzzles easier this way,(I say vertical) rather than a book. Is your bookkeeping done on the computer? Maybe we like our numbers that way. :)
 |  |
i was trying to think of a subtle way of saying he was male Kathy - glad that you picked it up!!!!!!

VLC - I read my first Lee Childs book the other day - enjoyed it. Harlan Coben is always good

LISA: I've read 4 or 5 of the Lee Child books (it's a he)--whatever I could find in the library. The Enemy, Persuader, Without Fail. The first in the series is Killing Floor. They are fast-paced, not predictable, and an interesting protagonist (Jack Reacher). Check out the website: More...

Just thought I would put my two cents in (and I can give you change). I am a homemaker who has been doing Sudoku for about 3 months and love it (wouldn't miss it). I have two daughters 15 months and 3 whom I plan to homeschool so they don't fight the math and other educational dilemas in the More...

Kathy/Valrico - Thanks for the kind words and I hope nobody bothers Gath about a sports section - just post the comments on general. I enjoy watching tennis, and if I cant watch, then catching up on the scores through your comments is the next best thing. Looking forward to the French.

Keith/CA - loved the ID ten T error joke. I done gunna use that - sorry Vic.

Yes, all the bookkeeping is computerised, I gave up pens & ledgers a long time ago (& that's giving my age away!)

Your nephew must have been really small at the time !!!!

Jane Aust & Kathy Valrico. Thanks for your good wishes. Kathy I don't know so much, I think a little knowledge is often a very dangerous thing !!

2:57 Last personal best was 4:01! I don't care if it was REALLY easy, it is still nice to see under three minutes!

Prince and both Wallace's stink it up in Pistons lose.
