Happy Wednesday!
Soooo looking forward to day off tomorrow (my coworker is on vacation this week and her substitute is the pits!)...

This is the bright spot of the morning (the next one will be at 4:30pm when I leave work)

It's tough to have to work for a living...

in to say Hi, was off for a hike and then realized it was raining -- cool enough for a windbreaker this morning -- so maybe I can dodge the raindrops this morning - just a gentle rain....

Jane you'd sooner see me in a bikini than in a pair of those! Do I dare ask for a Fl weather report today?

Maen all,
Fast time for me. 2.38.
Unusual cactus.
We had a total of .6 inches of rain Monday night and Tues morn. Chances of more are decreasing.

2:21 Maen! Definitely the first time I've seen a cactus like that!

Fiona - I received an e-mail from the owner of the cottage we're renting, and he said he was having a chat with "Momma Nature" to assure good weather during FionaFest.

good morning all, a little wet here.

Jane, I use the BBC Weather site and it says that on Sunday, instead of torrential downpour rain, there will be 'light rain'. Is this a step in the right direction or does Momma Nature need more encouragement?!

It is unusual for us to have rain in July especially as much as we've had.
Love the cacti

1:54 Hi to all. I have a small cactus garden. Love it.

Thought for the Day:

Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed.

If that's all you're going to wear at Fionafest, Jane, you certainly will be the center of attention! Even worse, everyone will probably be looking at your feet!

That's a scary looking cactus. Perfect weather day here, at least so far. Shh--nobody jinx it.

I like today's photo; it has a good subject, a clear image, and an informative caption!
My dad was once the head of the St. Louis Cactus Society. When he passed away, there were dozens of them to dispense with, and I have kept aloe vera on hand ever since. Dad's advice: "It works wonders on burns."

Judy - they'd better just look at my feet. Otherwise, they'll turn into pillars of salt.

I'm not sure if the cactus variant necessarily involves a 'genetic defect'. The mutation may be conveying and advantage. Fusion of the branches means a lower surface-area/volume ratio, which might enhance water conservation in dry conditions.

everyone. Jim, your dad was a smart guy (I think it runs in your family ). We have lots of aloe growing in our backyard (oops, I mean "garden", Fiona!). Whenever anyone has a burn I run out, chop off a leaf, & squeeze out the gel inside to apply. It definitely helps soothe & reduces blistering.
