maen all! a few years back i made inquiries about getting a 'free' pony from the yearly round-up to thin the herd. only problem was that to meet fed standards(special fencing,feeders,shelters,feed,etc.) i would have had to lay-out about $100,000. so only well established horse farms can afford the More...

For those interested in a story about the wild ponies, check out 'Misty of Chincoteague' by Marguerite Henry. It's a children's book that I read and because of it I visited there over 40 years ago.

Brumbies are what wild horses are called here. Elyne Mitchell's Silver Brumby books set in the Snowy Mountains of S.E.Australia were my favorites as a teenager. The red waratah flower in the previous pictures below grows wild up there I'm told, though I'm yet to find one.

We took our 3 children to Chincoteague because we read all of the Misty books, too. Isn't it in Virginia? Really cute picture!

My husband's family used to camp on that island every summer and I have lots of pictures of the ponies roaming around our campsite and beach. All of the children loved to follow them. I haven't been back there in about 20 years though.

I thought it was a last second snap befor a moose stomped the photographer into the mud.

Great shot. He must have been more interested in your camera than biting you. Great place for a vacation. Sent a few there when we lived in PA & MD.
