Looks like the same architect as that private school from Dunedin the other day. Over the top Victorian Boom Style architecture. They had a major gold rush there didn't they? A lot of the diggers went from Victoria and New south Wales to South Island New Zealand.

A magnificent building and the inside is fantastic as well, pity there is not more trains using the station. To the left of this photo is about the same length again of the building less the clock tower. It is just beautiful.

Oh wow.. the Dunedin Railway Station. Lovely building - although it's more of a tourist attraction than a working railway station now. Very few trains left at that end of the country. I'm feeling a little sad today - my son, daughter in law and two grand-children fly out today to go and live in More...

I met up with a friend at the 'Metrolink Scottrade Center Stop' in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA in December. That train stop consisted of a few small roofs above an open-air raised concrete platform, and I stood in the cold rain. The old Union Station where trains once came by the hundred has been converted to a shopping mall. Aren't 'upgrades' a wonderful thing?

On a visit to NZ we went on the Trans Alpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth via Arthurs Pass. Spectacular scenery. I was told that Christchurch has 6 trains a day. One southbound, one northbound one westbound (which we were on) in the morning and the return trains in the evening.

I thought that was Dunedin coming up! I didn't spend long there but it has very distinctive architecture. Did you go up to Lanarch Castle, Rosemary? No prizes guessing that Dunedin was settled by Scots eh ... there's even a statue of Robbie Burns there!

To Jim from Jupiter - my family are going to be just south of Nevada, Missouri. My son is a dairy farmer and he's been contracted by Fort Scott Community College and University of Missouri to teach NZ style dairy farming - they're very nervous about such a big change - but very excited too. I'm saving my money like crazy so I can go visit them someday.
