The Dog Days of summer are here with a vengeance. 100F predicted today (38C), but the coast itself will be cooler. Hazy, but visibilty is still 5 miles. Full frontal humidity and the usual ''isolated thunderstorms, some severe'' will be the pattern for the next week. Brownouts are expected. The area SE of Hatteras is being watched for a forming convection, but no one is nervous...yet.

Ian - what you doing here? and what are brownouts anyway?

Hi Ian, What are you doing all the way over here on hard? Needed a change? Sure do miss you on easy, wish you would come back. Glad to see that you're okay, tho. BTW finally fixed the pork loin, it was yummy! We need another recipe exchange.

brownouts are when some areas lose power temporarily or it even just dims because there isn't enough power from the utilty to support all the unusual need

Ian - Good News - The State newspaper reported this morning that today is the peak day for average (day + night) temperatures (ours is 92.4F). Tomorrow, the average will begin to go DOWN (92.3F tomorrow). YEAH!!!

Slow today on 7:30 - arthritis is playing up in the cold. Only 6'C today, so could do with some of your 100 degrees you lot are talking about. Then again, it doesn't seem that long ago you were talking about the snow storms etc in the northern hemisphere

Mornin', all. More of the same, I'm afraid. Cloudy with afternoon thunderstorms. Wind shift to NE last night created lots of lightning. It hit a gasoline tanker in the nearby Port, setting the offload pipes on fire. The crew chopped the lines and anchored up in the channel, with everyone safe. About 200 firefighters kept the fire away from the storage tanks. Nobody hurt.
