Good Maen to all. I humming a happy song, a wishing everyone a flighty day!
 |  |
Maen to all,

racy caption,eh? I vote you should not post until you solve!!!

This picture is so strange to me. I have NEVER had more than two hummers at a time on the feeders. Around here, the hummingbirds are so territorial and aggressive that they would rather spend their time chasing off competitors than drinking the nectar!

See you don't need red dye!

Canuk Greg, very witty comment for so late at night.

I love hummers!

For Mandy in Perth: Thanks! My wit does tend to get tired as the day goes on, but I do appreciate people who recognize it. Have a great sleep Down Under!!

My hummingbirds are very territorial, too. I think if there are enough of them, though, they are forced to tolerate each other like in this photo.

6:53. Now these hummers I can take!
 |  |
13:03Good maEn all. Lovely to see pics of something we will never see wild in the UK.

maen all! i agree that hummers are quite territorial but this time of year i see the adults bringing their young to our feeders regularly. true the color is just for us humans. i use the same sugar-water as i use for bee hive starter in the spring. until about a month ago both bees and hummers were More...

7:08 Hi to all.

Fact/Fiction of the Day:

The giant squid has the largest eyes in the world.
 |  |
WoW.... we get one or two hummers at our feeder but not a crowd like your photo (there are more Hummers on the street here)...

have a great day/night one and all

I love the Hummingbirds. I average 15 pounds of sugar per season feeding these wonderful little birds. I have never seen this many on one feeder!
Great picture!

8:36 Good maEn all!

Never seen so many hummers at one feeder here either. Wow! We have at least two kinds here, and the male Annas are very territorial. And sassy. They don't need red dye, but should have red on the feeder. The ones here sure recognize feeders, and will chitter at you if it's empty. New World wonders! Thanks for pic.

At our cabin in the mountains, we have to pull down the hummingbird feeders before dark or the bears come by and 'drink them like a beer.' So, until it becomes pitch dark, the dominant rufous hummer hovers outside whichever window through which he can see us, right up against the glass. He never leaves, and you can almost see his little 'lips' cussing us out!

8:37 fun one
The hummingbirds swarm like this at my aunt's house in the ozarks. Here, we only get them one or two at a time. But then, I don't have a feeder, I just have plants they like.
 |  |
13:29 We don't get hummers here. Have to hum by ourselves...hummmmmm
 |  |
4.47 Just put my hummer-feeder out today. Woule love to have a scene like that at my feeder!!!
 |  |
We get quite a few humming birds here, but the most I've seen at once were in my sister's yard in Southern Utah. She has about 5 feeders and they can all be crowded at once.
They are so fun to watch. They sometimes hover about four feet in front of our faces, so they watch us too.
 |  |
Love all your humming bird stories. My feeder broke in a wind storm. Think I need to get another.

Hmmmmmmmmm hmmm hmm hmmmm hmmmmmm ;=D
 |  |
we have 7 feeders at our house, and plant things that attract them. put the feeders out in february, and we have more of the tiny creatures than any of our neighbors!!! i saw a hummer mating dance today - had heard them described before, but never seen one. i'm hoping that later on in the summer we will see the babies.

There is some debate about which animal has teh largest eyes - the giant squid or the tarsier which is meant to have the biggest eyes in proportion to body size
 |  |
11:53 not so good... but still ok.
hummingbirds en masse.
 |  |
Speaking of hummingbird babies, while growing up in California we had a hummingbird build her nest about a foot away from one of our windows. She didn't have much privacy, but we were able to see the eggs and the baby birds until they flew from the nest.
