This looks like it could be an adventure!
 |  |
Easier than the medium today.

Rough seas ahead. I can't believe I am first today, by now there are usually 15 or so comments.

Good Maen to all! Heck of a way to board a boat!
 |  |
I would think sitting in a deep sling would be more secure than a rigid chair. Not something I would like to try any time soon.
 |  |
9:32 Good picture. Would you want to be the person in the bosun's chair? Good mAen all.
 |  |
Been there, done that in the Tonkin Gulf. It is an adventure. By the way, that is a ship, not a boat.
 |  |
5:30 Y'know, I don't think that's as fun as it looks...
 |  |
8:33 I found this more straightforward than the medium, too. As for the fun in the picture, I think I'll pass.

Jeb: You are correct! Slip of the mind!!

The near ship is the USS Newport News, heavy cruiser. The other ship is a destroyer, not sure which one. Could be the USS Perry.
 |  |
Glad to hear you arrive safely. Have only one more sleep to go!! Work has been crazy!
Am just going for my last walk - beautiful morning but still only 8 degrees.

Shi? Boat? Maritime snobbery!

What happened to my 'p' in ship?
 |  |
Maen, under 10 so I'm happy

Baz,, for your information.. ships carry boats, boats do not carry ships. There is a technical difference there.
 |  |
17:53, that's all I can say.

TO BobC --
Wondered if this was your photo? If not, how did you identify the ship? I was looking at it trying to figure out what and who they were but couldn't identify the emblem on the side of the far ship and did not even have a clue about the near one. Is the vintage of this Vietnam as More...
 |  |
Baz: Seems like your 'P' petered out. Do hope that doesn't happen often!
 |  |
Gene, Yes that is my photo from about 1962.. Closer to the Cuban blocade than Viet Nam. I was stationed on the Newport News from late 61 till early 64. And, she did go to Viet Nam in the late 60's and early 70's. Check out: http://www.uss-newport-news.com/

Long day unpacking lots of boxes. Haven't started putting up pictures. Washed a lot of crystal, moved some furniture, very tired. Heading for bed. Last day for you! You sound excited, I hope you enjoy your trip. We'll be here til Saturday, then two days to get home (over 900 miles). I won't look for anything from you til at least Sep 8th or so. Don't work too hard today!
 |  |
I figured it out, it's DD-941 USS Du Pont. I looked at some of the other photos leading up to the high line. Had a hull number in the first one.
 |  |
BobC sounds like you're another of those retired Navy men like my husband. He was on the Patterson (a frigate) and transferred like this a couple of times.

Thank you BobC. for the great pic and the discussions about it, makes it so much more interesting to know the background!! Off to try it as a jigsaw now

Done.

Off to bed now. Early morning again for me for Thursday. Have a great day to those who have any of it left.
 |  |
BobC -- Thanks for the picture and the info. I'll check out the Newport News web site. I was on several CVs during Vietnam and subsequent but my only underway experience on the East Coast was a short trip on the Lex out of Pensacola when I was in a squadron at Cecil Field in the 70's.
