I admire any gardener who can make a little patch of the inner city so pretty...and wonder why some idiot has to detract from it with graffiti!

We can focus on the beauty in the world or focus on the blemishes. Graffiti like this is a cry for help, although the person doing it doesn't realize it.

Also, I miss being able to garden with this type of salvia (s. splendens). It was the main flower I would use around the outside of the house and I had an abundance of blossoms in my favorite colors. Now they can't sell them anymore. Another case of some people ruining it for the many.

Nice, neat planting, but my eye was drawn to the graffiti as well -- yuck.

I think this is (a) graffito, not graffiti, and it says "DFeats!", which may be a gang term or just kids being kids.

But it is not a cry for help; it's a cry for a thrashing and/or 100 hours cleaning graffiti left by others and/or paying for the removal of graffiti left by others.

My great-grandfather lived in Forbes St Darlinghurst so thanks. On my next trip to Sydney I am going to try to find where his house was. It probably no longer exists but it will be interesting to walk where he walked.

If kids are caught 'graffiti-ing' here, they ARE made to clean it AND any other found around town. They are escorted by an armed police officer. Scares the bejeesus out of them! There has been a noticeable decline in graffiti in this little burg

Tricia, I am pretty sure this is the wall surrounding East Sydney Tech (cnr Burton/Forbes St). As the building was formerly Darlinghurst Gaol, Ian's call for a thrashing are not inappropraite!
