What an odd looking creature. Guess they've got to hang around somewhere, but I still wouldn't like to come across one when I'm smelling the roses ...

I agree with you, Debbie! I really dislike spiders, particularly the ''fuzzy'' ones!

Super photograph. Was this a flash shot? The details on the rose (moisture) and spider (texture) are so crisp and clear. I've never heard of a mouse spider. Is it found in Australia?

If you don't like fuzzy spiders, Karen, how about a black widow or a brown recluse? That's a female mouse spider, by the way, and it's the male that is more likely to bite. Nonetheless, I wouldn't stick my nose in that rose, either. The dark background really makes this beautiful photo. I'll bet the spider was just a bonus.

Good mAen! I'll take spiders in my gardens any day; they are much easier on the birds than pesticides. This is a beautiful photo, with the bonus of an unknown species of spider to me. Ruby, are mouse spiders found in South Carolina? The beautiful photos and matching educational explanations brighten my day. Thanks, everyone!

I was about to write that Mouse Spiders came from Queensland, but looked up Wikapedia to find that there are 6 types of them in Australia. Bird spiders are bigger again. My favorites are the big huntsman spiders that come inside and sit up high on the ceiling if there's rain imminent but a beautiful little St Andrew's Cross spider is a wonder to behold.

There was once a little spider who was as big as a mouse... but the little spider was unhappy, she wanted to be beautiful like a rose .......so ...... (I guess that it's a bit late fro any takers on this one)
