To Lizbaby4 - backpacking is a wonderful heritage to give your kids. At times my kids hated all the work, but now they appreciate it and take their kids on backpacking trips.

Martha, that looks like a pretty big backpack for an 8-year-old. I'm impressed.

Cami: It looks big, but it was pretty light. We tried to keep them to one quarter of their body weight. So at 60 pounds body weight, he was carrying about 15 pounds. He carried his clothes, sleeping bag (2 pounds), and maybe a box of crackers.

I too Cami thought the backpack looked nearly as big as the boy. Certainly is a good activity to get kids interested in. My grand kids are computer whizzes but they go camping and hiking and fishing with their parents every school holiday.
