The pampas grass does make a lovely showing although it can be a nuisance, I believe.

I will be moving to Idaho in a few weeks. I hope I can grow this in my new yard. It is so pretty when it blows in the breeze.

I had the misforune of having a pampus grass years ago. Has an incredible growth rate. Seeds blow around and come up nearby. Leaves will cut you too. Clumps were attractive to firebugs. Used to be many many clumps in the Perth metro area but you only see a few now after they were declared as a weed and destroyed.

This is my picture from Michigan. I have a hard time getting it to grow, so there is no problem of it spreading in this cold climate. I like that it hides my walk way though because it grows so tall.

Darn, I have been so busy this week, that I didn't see that my picture of the Gonopora coral was this week too. I hope you all enjoyed it, my husband took it learning his new camera.

Cathy, I loved the coral photo, and this is a good one also.

The puzzle was difficult for me without possibilities. I almost gave up and added them but then realized I'd missed an easy placement.

In Bendigo, Australia, pampas grass used to cover all the old gold mine tailings. I suppose it held them together to a degree but also made the place very picturesque. Lovely to paint against the different colored piles. Probably all eradicated by now. Hadn't thought of their burning attractiveness. It's rare to see a cypress hedge in cities these days because of fire bugs, more's the pity.

I remember having Pampas grass in our garden many years ago. I had forgotten all about it until now. It was lovely and I agree you don't see it much at all now. I don't remember it being declared a noxious weed. We struggle to grow anything in our soil so we thought it was great.

Few things scare me more than hearing people comment about how attractive Pampas Grass is. It is a dreadful pest in the Oz bush. It spreads like mad and is particularly difficult to remove - hand grenades? I thought it had been declared a noxious weed in all states; maybe Qld is yet to catch up?

'Pampas grass is highly adaptable and can grow in a wide range of environments and climates. It also seeds prolifically, with each plant able to produce over 1 million seeds during its lifetime. As such, in some areas (for example California and Hawaii) it is regarded as an invasive weed, whilst in More...

Mark From Shenzhen China asked who had the honours here. I think it was AGWA our agriculture department. I checked out the quarantine list for W Aus and it is illegal to import the seed.

For those interested in growing Cortaderia - pampus grass that is where you are allowed to. It takes 14 - 21 days to germinate, needs a peaty soil mix, should be planted after your last frost in spring. Here is the important bit - It must be planted on the surface and needs light to germinate, so More...
