Aimee - I, too, have a fascination with icebergs. The closest I've come to seeing something similar was when I lived in Chicago. When I was very young (i.e. early 20s), I would go to the lakefront in the middle of a storm in the winter and watch the waves crash against some of the highrise More...

Ame & MizT - I hope you both get to Alaska some day, then. The glaciers at least are absolutely amazing to see! I don't know what sort of trips are available far north that might expose you to actual icebergs of any size (seems dangerous to me), but I am sure others on this site will have that knowledge.

Zoki: Glad you have an avatar again. I am not sure that the weather is a last-resort topic of conversation. It is a pretty vivid feature here right now.

Funny. I thought that picture was the Endeavour in the Antartctic last year. My memory is terrible.

Aimee, nope, I do not share your fascination with ice burgs. Ice burgs require cold weather. I do not like cold.

To add to today's weather discussion, our weather man is having trouble doing an acurte forecast. They forecast a low of 36F, it goes to 28. They say a dry, warming trend, and More...

Any other countries have such a forcster of spring as our Ground Hog's Day? NOPE, we are not talking sausage here.

Ground hogs are hibernating animals, said to venture out of thier den on Feburary 2, for a weather check, to see if they should come out and stay, or go back for an extended More...

Sunny today, but snow's coming tonight! (I bet I'll meet all my neighbors/neighbours at the grocery to stock up in case we get snowed in.) But I'm fascinated with snowflakes rather than iceburgs. All started three years ago when I started using vast amounts of my computer paper to cut paper More...

I'd finished the puzzle, enjoyed the weather related picture, was working my way through the comments, being reminded once again how wildly different the weather can be in different spots around the globe, when Zoki and Moderator shot the whole thing down. I disagree. Part of why I spend time here More...

No snowflakes here ... and NO! Shiela, I am not going to use up all my printer paper to cut out #$%*!$ snowflkes ...

Shiela, I'm picturing elementary school classrooms at Christmas decorated with snowflakes the children have cut themselves ... maybe your whole house could look like that.

no Judy jokes today??? Or was yesterday's the only one you know Judy?!!
01/Feb/08 4:17 AM

Ah, Fiona, I think that is only the third joke I have ever posted in two years. My aging friends must be a little slow on the uptake ... I rarely receive anything in the mail that has not already been posted here! Either that, or the folks here are just really, really sharp! :)

Hey, Dave from Oregon/Arizona ...Arizona seems nice for the winter! When "Cabin Fever" sets in up in snow country, paper snowflakes seemed a harmless pastime! Then I got hooked!
for the suggestion, Keith! I have put a couple up to keep the birds from flying into the windows near my bird feeders.

I'll have you know, Antenna Boy, that I do NOT lurk ... that is beneath me! I just happen to check my computer every time I walk by the den ... I can't help that it is centrally-located! When do you head back to Oregon, Dave?

Keith and MizT, I agree, I find the differences in weather around the world fascinating and am glad people post what it is like where they are! Especially the 'extremes' and how people cope with them. We finally got our promised storm last night - I was in the quail aviary when it hit and got More...

We are trying to think up excuses to stay here longer but we usually head back north around the third week of March. We still have our motorhome on the market and this is the best place to sell it so we may be forced to stay a bit longer.
