And special thanks to Rayray for his Ode to Gath and for using the wealth of English language with such a sense of fun.

Good Mean,
Cute boy. Looks like he is Nepalese. Nepal is a beautiful country. I was lucky enough to see it before the royal family was destroyed and it was still safe.

Thanks again to all the members who left lovely welcome messages for me last night.
What a great bunch of people.

DON'T SEND CHRISTMAS CARDS TO "RECOVERING SOLDIERS" AT WALTER REED HOSPITAL!

An e-mail has recently been making the rounds asking people to send a Christmas card to a "recovering serviceman" at Walter Reed Hospital. If you get this e-mail, do NOT forward it on. See More...

Well, Rayray, you did post it rather late yesterday. I did have to search for it. So some kind soul decided that such a great poem should go on earlier so that more could enjoy it!

I found this and many places to find "why the poppy"
A writer first made the connection between the poppy and battlefield deaths during the Napoleonic wars of the early 19th century, remarking that fields that were barren before battle exploded with the blood-red flowers after the More...

Thanks Nancy. I didn't know a half of that, But it is also true that the poppy is deliberately planted on low-lying land reclaimed from the sea. That plant accumulates salt and is then harvested and removed - that way reducing the salinity of the brackish land to make it gradually more suitable for normal agriculture.

Jane, thanks for the head's up. I did get the Walter Reed Christmas card e-mail. I have sent your summary of the e-rumor and the truth to everyone on my e-mail list.

Nancy, thanks for the history of "why the poppy".
Very interesting. It seems the poppy has been a world wide symbol for many, many years.

Nancy, thanks for the input on the Poppy.

My original comment yesterday, was that on a trip north to Victoria BC, I was amazed to see how the custom of wearing a poppy on "Veterans/Armistice/Rememberance Day" (11/11) was alive and well. It has gone by the wayside here. My More...

The poem IN FLANDERS FIELDS is on my page. There is also a video titled Rememberance Day (probably done by a Canadian) - however it is international in scope and deals wars of our fathers through to those currently serving. It is more uplifting than the poem. Hope you will enjoy it.

BTW - I don't see people wearing Poppies on Memorial Day either.

For tomorrow I will be posting a video entitled "Heros". The 12th is a day off for many - since the 11th fell on a Sunday this year.
