I used up a lot of p. 2 considering I was "gone for the day" on p. 1. My pot of yerba mate is drained dry, the house is warmer now, I've just explained to Little Plum what turpentine is (a word she encountered in today's lesson), and I really must be off. But then, everyone already knows I'm "off." Toodles again.

The world has lost another hero...

AMSTERDAM — Miep Gies, the office secretary who defied the Nazi occupiers to hide Anne Frank and her family for two years and saved the teenager's diary, has died, the Anne Frank House museum said Tuesday. She was 100.

An attorney arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay
of execution. His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed
and he was feeling worn out and depressed.
As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started
on him about, 'What time of More...

No, not bad. It probably showed up twice because the internet gremlins didn't want anyone to miss it.

100 years of wisdom!

A little known fact. The first testicular guard(box), was used in cricket in 1874... and the first helmet was used in 1974!

It took 100 years for them to realise that their brains are almost as important as their balls...

Here's a similar one, Colo Jim...

A LITTLE KNOWN BASEBALL FACT:

The first testicular guard (Cup) was used in baseball in 1874 and the
first helmet was used in 1934. It took 60 years for men to realize that
the brain is also important.

HI all! Only managed to get correct answers out of Keith, Plum and CP for yesterday's riddle. Note that our resident bat monkey failed on the question!! The answer was a black hole.

I think that the use of lipstick by pigs should be banned - in view of the earth's dwindling resources and a general need to reduce over-consumption (e.g of lipstick in all colours)

Did you know that the 12 Apostles (off the coast of Victoria on the Great Ocean Road) used to be known as the Sow and Piglets. They changed the name to attract more tourists.
Another useless fact for today!

Good afternoon to all! I'd make a comment about bacon, pork chops and pork roasts, but that would be rather piggish of me.

For those of you so inclined, sing along to the tune of 'These are a few of my favorite things.'

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knittin',
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittin's,
Bundles of magazines tied up with string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Black hole???? Come now, is there really such a thing? Hi ho, hi ho, off to Google I go.....
13/Jan/10 8:03 AM
 |  |

BTW, I was referring to "things" disappearing into a black hole.

"The popular notion of a black hole "sucking in everything" in its surroundings is therefore only correct near the black hole horizon; far away, the external gravitational field is identical to that of any other body of the same mass".

There you go. Clear as mud.

Kathy - There is such a thing as a "black-hole!" It use to suck socks around my house! When I use to do laundry for my 5 children, there was always one unmatched sock!!!!

some daft answers tonight, I can tell you! Lots of people finding one half of the answer and sticking any old thing that rhymes with it as the other half! all! I am afraid I did not take photos of the 2009 Year of the Ox Parade nor will I of the 2010 Year of the Tiger Parade. The Council of the City of Sydney moved the parade to twilight. I decline to take my young child into Sydney at night on public transport. I am sorry if that is an indictment of my city - but the twilight city is a place for young adults without children.
