Have you ever had any of the turtles nip at your past-your-strong-shoulders length hair? and why is it so long? Please, please don't tell me it's because some mid-life crisis you are going through. Do you have an earring too?
 |  |
no earring dear - long because it needs to be to attract the women! swimming to join the ladies!
 |  |
The turtles bite at anything they can, but I keep away from the jaws. The big claws on their flippers are harder to dodge, and I have the scars to prove it. I have no earrings, piercings, or tattoos. I grew my hair long because now I am semi-retired in Florida and work in the nature community, lots More...

Elsie - talk about trying to phreak out the newbies! change is NOT good! it was hard enuf for us to accept posts being put up on pages instead of one long slow-to-load! Rosemary read thru the comments, then the puzzle, girl. All will be revealed to those who read! lol. Sure do miss the jokes! More...

having to watch the moments tick away, or the animated ads - oooh, those spiders just make me feel so creepy! I have my postit handy for those! Kind of messy on the screen when I squash them but then it IS done with, then. Made my gingerbread cookie men with first graders today, each got to roll out and then cut one. Wonder if any of them will run away. Or

maybe I will! The Christmas spirit is not in the hearts of teachers! And maybe that's why I'm going to retire at the end of the year and then y'all can have my company more! What do you want for Christmas?
 |  |
A sudoku puzzle book? But it won't have the comments and that's the BEST part of this number puzzle craze! Gath, you've got a winner and many many admiring fans - pictures notwithstanding. How about that page 3 today? Just a little challenge to see if we're on our toes! Happy Holidays y'all!
 |  |
Are you in santa barbara? I spent christmas there in 19XX and had fun. I even have been on goleta beach! Had a friend quit my Univesity (7 males per female) and go to UCSB. He was definatly the smarter one.
 |  |
Went to UCSB (party school!) where the barefoot surfers brought their boards to class! If you're semi-retired you were there when I was - 1970 graduation. Loved walking the beaches at sunset - and return at least once a year. Now living south back here in San Diego area. Not as much rain.

Traverse City, eh? Is Gordie Howe's resturaunt still open? We stayed right on Lake Huron. Wow are there a lot of big spiders there, they came out right at dusk and made big webs on the balcony every night. I know the difference between a troll and a you-per, bet the aussies don't. I'll even give the hint: Mackinac
 |  |
Jim - you work in the nature community - with turtles!? My nature work is gardening, nature walks, hikes, lots of environment and ecology education work with kids. And in retirement I'll be continuing the same. Love being outdoors and we DO both live where we can do great stuff year-round!
 |  |
Nan - could you elaborate?
 |  |
How can you possibly say you won't miss those Christmas presents you got as a teacher? When I was a kid my mother always went to the trouble of finding out what my teacher would *like* for Christmas, because they all tended to get bottles of the world's cheapest perfume. Do you still?
 |  |
OK it was Christmas 1976. I was a freshman in college. Took a trip to the west coast in a van with a one-time friend. He got us arrested at Grand Canyon, and then almost a second time in Carmel So I bailed out and took a plane back home, sat next to Bing Crosby's kid on the flight up to San Fran. A More...

MO - Not perfume, but tea mugs, candles, and hand-made cards, and I've got 5 albums full of all my memories! My husband had a high school senior today (he substitutes) who was in my 1st grade and she of course remembered me (I also had her 2 brothers). My Christmas tree (when I finally put it up) is only hand-made and kid-gifted ornaments, memories with every one.

Jim--I love it! Yup, TC...been here a little over a year (also lived here as a toddler). Gordie Howes is now Hockey Heroes (new owner), the Lake is still the same. The spiders are big, had to call my husband once to let me into the house as one was sitting on the door knob and I couldn't get past More...

4:35 This one was easy! Have a good day ;)

Isn't Gordie Howes the guy Bart Simpson chooses to use in the episode when he repies to Mrs Krebopple's single's note??? Does anyone know what I am talking about??
 |  |
Chum at Sea World- get it?lol Yes I work 10 hours a week rehabbing sea turtles. Loggerheads and greens mostly. I saw a leatherback nesting in May! It probably weighed 1000 pounds and was over seven feet long.
Now I am thinking of La Jolla, seals, sand, bikinis, and hills. There are no hills here in FL. I am seven miles inland and my house is eight feet about sea level!
 |  |
Jim--that should read 'the spiders ARE big' I would say it like that because I work in a hotel (so talk to a lot of visitors) and none of them have ever commented on that--I always figured spiders are that size everywhere.
 |  |
Jim - those were the good ole days! We here (I teach here on the east side of Oceanside) have many OC refugees, some even still commute up there! Am happy to be where I am, rural, employed, my own 1/2 acre of garden and home. A friend has married a Sea World VP, they're now in Williamsburg VA - I kayak behind Sea World on MIssion Bay, view the penguins for free. My favorite place to be!
 |  |
Thanks Jim, just loading the co-ordinates now. Please sit still.
 |  |
So the spirit of Christmas *does* live in teachers' hearts? School is probably where we learn the most about Christmas.
 |  |
KRP--I think you are right! I may have to use my 'email a friend' to be sure but I think that was who the letters were from.

Gordie Howe, AKA Mr. Hockey, was the best player in the world for more than a decade. He played professional hockey till he was 51 years old, and the kids were (correctly) afraid to challenge him. Mackinac Island is the 'fudgie' place, yes? Joke that only Mich folks will get:
Son: Dad, I am More...

KRP - I hesitate to answer for fear of the red slash! lol. I started working in ecology in 1971 after I got my elem credential, Humboldt State, and just have continued to teach environmental ed, balance in nature, food chains, food webs, and have a school garden with 28 raised beds that's been More...

That should make it easy KRP

Ok Nan. I know more about the Humboldt Squid than I do about Humboldt State. Did not realise Gordie howe was real person, just the sick imaginings of Matt Groening et al. Here in Oz we have the finest hockey teams in the world but on grass. I guess you are talking ice.
 |  |
In jest only Jim. I am not of the sword wielding variety of King (however will gladly order others :-)

Fudgie: This area (and north of us to Mackinaw) is famous for fudge (and cherries--but that has nothing to do with this) Murdocks is the one here in Traverse City. A 'fudgie' is a tourist (in a VERY touristy town--hotels only make $$ 3 months a year) as they all run to the fudge shop first, then they clog up our roads, beaches, shops, and restaurants...ugh. I love winter :)
 |  |
It's a sweet time of year, though stressful - and I make it well-balanced with work and all the great stories that I shared with my boys as they grew up. Even played my fav tape of Christmas carols (I always decorate my tree to that tape) for them while they worked last week. Making something for More...

Wow, that joke is getting printed out...my husband will LOVE it :)

And La Jolla is awesome! Yes to the bikinis, but not on me lol - the better place for that is Pacific Beach where the best bikinis hang out - or the bodies hang out of the bikinis - well, you know what I mean! Our hills are parched and dry but I love the hiking! Can't b'lieve a 1/2 ton turtle and 7 feet long - thank you for taking care of the animals of our world!!

Its been fabulous all...must get back to work and go home, I have an early day tomorrow. Hope to see you all back here soon...or on the ship...depending on if you are a virtual traveler or not.
I will prepare the pies overnight (have decided to create my own mid-night buffet for Dennis)

1.55 my best time yet!

To Warren fromn Philly and Pete from Fort Douglas

Thanks for the joke and TFTD.
