The somewhat dry tree is down and out to the curb! Whew. I love putting it up and decorating it, but hate taking it down. Whoever invented the Shop Vac has my undying gratitude We've always had a 'live' tree because I like the piney smell, but next year I'm going artificial! No more More...

people of the world.
Mine started out peaceful, then the rest of it has me worried. Only 14 hours into the new year and I have been in that room twice and prepared two meals. One girl has left me to spend the weekend with her grandma, the other one will be returned.
Hope you all had a safe, happy entry into the New Year.

Happy New year everyone. Wonderful Rose Parade, loved the float you worked on Eve. The La Cañada Flintridge Float. Winner of the Animation Trophy, boy was that dragon moving.

Oh, nal ... that reminds me of a similar photo session gone bad.

It was night on a roadway overlooking a lake and I saw a beautiful "picture" so I slowed down and decided that what made it so beautiful was how the headlights shone on the branches that framed the view between me More...

Kathy - you can still have that piney smell if you get a pine scented auto air freshener and hang it up on the inside by the trunk of the artificial tree while you're assembling it. You can even store it away with the tree and it will smell like pine when you unpack the box next year.

Well, we have had our traditional "Good Luck" dinner with MIL. Blackeyed peas and cabbage. She originally planned to add fried chicken to the menu, but another relative told her that having chicken, turkey or duck on New Year's day would cause your luck to fly away. So we skipped the More...

Also like the idea of adding the pine scented freshener to the artificial tree. Will try it next year for sure.

But ... please be cautious with the artificial pine fresheners ... there are many scent-sensitive people, myself included, who have serious reactions to them! Besides, after a while, they all smell like bathroom spray anyway ... To achieve the piney smell, it's better to decorate your mantel with fresh boughs ...

I just posted the first light of 2010 as seen this morning from the shores at Matheson Hammock. The sun hadn't risen yet and the sky had an amazing palette of colors.
When I drove up the first thing I saw were the incredible colors in the sky, the mirror image on the bay and a single wood stork More...

1.57 With fronds like that, who needs anemones?

Last time I went to Healesville Sanctuary they had a photographic exhibition titled 'Regeneration'. People from the fire-affected areas had submitted photos that showed their interpretation of life after the fires, and one of the most stirring ones for me was of a tree fern frond opening. Life.

Nal - I love your picture. Sorry about the hassle you went through, but the resulting photo was well worth it (at least in MY opinion, but I wasn't the one sitting around waiting for the cops to show up!!!)

Great Ride today!

A little chilly (low 40s) but sunny, and I put about 100 miles on the bike riding with about 10 others. At the Brewery there were about 50 other bikes. Great way to start the New Year!

BBQ Rules.
We will soon enter the summer and the BBQ season. Therefore it is
important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor
cooking activity, as it's the only type of cooking that a 'real' man will
do, probably because there is an element of danger More...

Colo Jim - the BBQ story is a description of my life!
Not sure if the second joke is very PC but speaking of call centres - has anyone seen the British show 'Mumbai Calling' about a call centre in India. It is hilarious and takes a look at call centres from the point of view of the people who work in them. (For Aussies - try ABC2 Monday nights.)

Happy New Year to all the Sudokuists in the world. Eventhough I am not here as often as I used to be, I still remember my friends from around the world. In our city fireworks are forbiden for private use, but in our neighborhood there were people who risked to have the most beautifull exhibit in their garden. We enjoyed them alone since the children are gone to have their joy.

GannieMo I hope this inspires you. My very loved Busy went missing for days one time. We live in a rural area that is mainly big open fields and coyotes. I hunted and called daily. (That does not sound too inspiring, does it?)
The 5th day she was missing, I pulled up in front of the house and More...
