everyone hope you all have a great day/night.

My daughter is having a debate/discussion at school in regards to what age a child should leave home. If you have an opinion on this subject, we would be very grateful to hear it. You can post here or on my page.
Thanking you all in advance.

Angie, daughter No 1 left home at 18, 3 weeks after finishing Yr 12 and without my blessing (she packed up & left while I was at her sister's Yr 10 graduation and left a note on the bench). I felt it was a bit early, although I had expected she would move out in the next year or two after she started Uni.

Daughter No 2 had to move out when we (Mr P, no 3 child and I) moved overseas for 3 years. She declined coming with us, but says she wasn't really ready to go right then. She moved in with her sister for 6 months, then out into a flat on her own, then O/S with us for 6 months, then back in with us More...

A child can leave home when - they can balance a check book, know how and when to pay a bill, and know how to shop for and can cook at least 10 meals, know the differance between clean and dirty and what to do about it. Know how to call for help and how to give help. Can hold their temper and be More...

My overall impression is when they're about 20, have either been at Uni or at work for a couple of years.

Really enjoy the friendly banter. Many thanks Anne from Albany for keep putting your time there - it is my yardstick. I feel I'm doing OK if I'm not too far behind (but not under 2 mins like you yesterday)

Age is not a pointer in this. I know kid in their teens that can do these things and young men and women in their 20's 30's etc who can not. Its in the mind and heart that determens these things, not age.

to KB from DM IA USA

by your reasoning I should still be at home with my parents lol

I don't think there is an age where you can say a child is old enough to move out. Some kids can cope really well and others cannot, it depends on the child and it also depends on the home life, there are kids out there that would be better off moving away from their parents.

A little old lady was running up and down the
halls in a nursing home. As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say 'Supersex.' She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping her gown at him, she said, 'Supersex.' He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, 'I'll take the soup.'

Dang, KB, after reading your requirements to be able to leave home, I'm taking a look around and wondering if I should be where I am. Enlisted for 7 years at 17, 5 years at college, married for close to 40 and now you have me feeling underqualified.

2.17 I moved out and away from the family home at 16, as did my sister. Both brothers still live near our parents. My oldest child moved out and went to college at 17. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
