Mary...I love Paris and think you will too. Check out the tourist attractions, but also try to wander around a bit the neighborhoods like the Marais near Notre Dame or the Latin Quarter. Paris is a great place to soak up the atmosphere. And if possible try to speak a little French. Most Parisians love having foreigners attempt the language.

Daplap From PA - That song was written by Eric Bogle, a Scotsman living in Australia now, did you get his version? He also wrote The Green Fields of France, recorded by the Irish group The Fureys. It was also recorded by Redgum in Australia, this is also a very powerful anti-war song.

Just for your info..

Hi! Ed...

We just had the most fun you can have legally in a mountain forest ... er ... other than MAMACITA's 'grass sandwiches'!! Has anyone else out there ever used an hydraulic wood splitter? We spent the entire day crunching tree rounds into triangular and square firewood. My wood piles are works of More...

Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, and Quasimodo were all talking one day.
Sleeping Beauty said, 'I believe myself to be the most beautiful girl in the world.'
Tom Thumb said, 'I must be the smallest person in the world.'
Quasimodo said, 'I absolutely have to be the ugliest person in the More...

As the woman passed her daughter's closed bedroom door, she heard a strange buzzing noise coming from within. Opening the door, she observed her daughter giving herself a real workout with a vibrator. Shocked, she asked, 'What in The world are you doing?' The daughter replied, 'Mom, I'm thirty-five More...

JUDY hydraulic wood splitter
I would like to try one of those. I have seen one at work when we had some men come in after one of our many hurricanes. My husband splits wood with an axe. We have a wood burning stove for the winter; love a good fire very peaceful.

Thanks Newbie. I have some VERY slight memory of college French, and I bought some teach-yourself-French CD's to jog my memory. I am hoping another niece joins us, and she is fluent in French. I made one 10-day visit to Paris more than 25 years ago, and did find that the Parisians I encountered appreciated my attempts to speak their language -- or maybe they were just very amused!

ROTFL
they are 2 of the funniest jokes ever Hugh.
Judy I cannot agree more, graeme and myself are laughing hysterically.

KIM: Oh, yes! Wood splitters would be right up your alley! And I want to drive your tractor ... I know, let's meet half way, and I can drive your tractor, and you can split some wood. Hm-m ... half way ... that would be about at JEB's place in Kansas! Whadday say, JEB?? Are you willing to host a couple of girlie-girls who enjoy getting out and getting dirty??
 |  |
Jeb might have plenty of tractor driving territory in Kansas, but the wood to split might be somewhat scarce?
Girlie-girls?! Sure sounds like it!! LOL

JAMIE: You don't think a woman can maintain her femininity and still clobber bushes with a tractor, outfish her husband, or split wood like a lumberjack?????????
 |  |
Billy: Bargain bananas over your way - they're $14.95 kilo here!! And to think we used to neglect them and feed the mushy ones to the hoya!!
 |  |
JUDY - I was kidding!!! Honest. I have no doubt that you and KIM are very capable AND feminine.
 |  |
I teach with a couple of girlie-girls that would certainly agree with you.

And beat me if I didn't!

Daplap from PA: Another of Eric Bogle's anti-war songs is 'No Man's Land', which I believe was inspired by a visit to a war cemetery in France. It's as moving as 'And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda' - both of them make me teary every time I hear them. Eric Bogle writes - and performs - most of his own songs. There's lots of social commentary, but also lots of funny material.

2:43 - finally back under 3 minutes!!!!
 |  |
Judy/Bendigo - we have bargain bananas here?! It makes me weep more when I think I used to LET them go mushy to make banana cake/muffins!

Had a lovely Hot choccie with Mel and Rola yesterday, nice meeting you Rola (em - always nice to meet with you darl). Give me a couple of days to download piccies - will have some more after meeting with Anne.

JAMIE: You have to remember that, like you, Kim and I are teachers, and we crack HEADS for a living! One must be resourceful and have a sense of humor to survive ... I was just yanking your chain, too!
 |  |
Q: how many people does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: just two, but da mned if I know how they’ll fit in a lightbulb!
 |  |
JUDY - very true. And thanks for yanking my chain. My wife chides me for being too serious all the time.
 |  |
Good one, CORKY!

Billy: Banana nut bread my favorite.

Hugh:

Judy: I bet you do.

Judy, used to have to go cut, then bring it home split and stack the wood. My husband would always pick the hottest day of the year to do it. I absolutely detested stacking the wood. It always seemed be be him and me, for some reason the kids always disappeared.
 |  |
A tribute to the banana: We regret the years we considered you cheap and ordinary. We are sorry we didn't appreciate you and allowed you to go black and mushy. We never dreamed there'd come a time when you'd be beyond our reach and available only to the rich and famous. We love you and miss you! More...
 |  |
Judy, I did a little internet searching on Eric Bogle - he does look quite interesting. I am still trying to find someplace to download 'Matilda' - the lyrics are really powerful.
