I think Hortense, my hoover is a little jealous. She keeps depositing dust around the kitchen to cover Petunia. We need to have words.

Petunia is such a lovely name andré. That is my nickname for my firstborn. She is a lover of all things purple. Especially flowers.

Yes Jill it is. Petunia is pink with flowers on and a very sweet little tummy to boot.

Rayray, I hope you are not trying to store 'ambient' sausage rolls in your fridge/freezer!!

(as an aside, ambient sausage rolls were on sale here recently and most were intrigued as to the exact flavour used in ambient.)

Why do we say 'Lets bury the hatchet'?
Shouldn't it be 'Lets berry the hatchet'? and where does that phrase come from? Anyone know?
03/Feb/10 3:01 AM
 |  |

'Bury the Hatchet' or 'Let by-gones be by-gones'. The "Great Spirit" commanded the North American Indians, when they smoked the calumet or peacepipe, to bury their hatchet, scalping-knives, and war-clubs in the ground, that all thought of hostility might be buried out of More...

Love the camels and can imagine their conversation ... "I saw this in a store window and I just had to have it!"

I LOVE that solution to World Peace, Shiela! Would that we could, but I suppose that the burial of nuclear weapons wouldn't be all that advisable ...

andré,
I find your past-described, patient determination upon confronting the obstinate unfrozen world to be very helpful towards conserving some level of sanity!
I keep ordering my fridge to work. It remains silent. So I ask it "Are you deaf or something?"

All it says for a reply is to rattle and wheeze even more than before.

For anyone interested: I have edited a poem I posted last July out of recognition, and just now have posted it in My Gallery

Being so attuned to technology, as I am, Rayray, I find that a good swift kick to recalcitrant appliances is usually quite effective!

If it is, then Humpty-Dumpty is found in camels' toilets

Sorry Keith - pardon the dyslexia - not Kieth, Keith.

Judy: I think it is the printed circuit board at fault, and that is at the top of the fridge well beyon the reach of my equestrian hocks. I don't want to tear my kickers trying that method.

That nursery rhyme will never be the same!

Basil Fawlty tried to beat his car into obeyance with a tree branch.
Do you think that wouold work?
03/Feb/10 3:34 AM

Do you mean 'Humpty-Dumpty' or 'Punch & Judy?'
03/Feb/10 3:35 AM
 |  |

[Should be re-named 'Punch with Judy']
03/Feb/10 3:36 AM

You should post the un-edited poem as well, Rayray.

I used to hit the side of our old TV to get it to turn on. It worked! (There was a mechanical part that would stick in the off position.) Doubt the new TV's have anything that resembles mechanical parts anymore!

Today's Question is:

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS ELECTRICITY AND WHERE DOES IT GO AFTER IT LEAVES THE TOASTER?

Here is a simple experiment that will teach you an important electrical lesson. On a cool, dry, day scuff your feet along a carpet, then reach your hand into a friend's mouth More...

Edison's first major invention in 1877 was the phonograph, which could be found in thousands of American homes, where it basically sat until 1923, when the record was invented.

But Edison's greatest achievement came in 1879 when he invented the electric company. Edison's design was a More...

Sheila: The unedited poem is still there - in the Archives - on page 3, of 25th July, at 11.59am.

HI all!! So what was wrong with my puzzle yesterday??? Too difficult or what? Maybe what. I only had two attempts and no completely correct answer. Here's what I was looking for:
1. Mr and Mrs Voyant - Clare (as in Clairvoyant)
2. Mr and Mrs Tress ( Matt)
3. Mr and Mrs Nasium (Jim)
4. More...

Rayray, I seem to remember in Fawlty Towers that Basil's little car sat there and sniggered at him as he took off down the road with the dish of duck in his arms, and on his own two feet. The car resisted, I think your fridge might do likewise!

Here's today's one - answers to the "save Rayray's fridge" inbox please!
I have been called a savage, a chief and oft times a leader.

Rayray - It was very interesting seeing the two versions of your poem. They are so different - yet the same. It reminds me of our 'paint-offs' in my watercolour group. Each artist is given the same photo to paint and have 1 hour to complete. It's amazing the differences in the paintings, but yet the same.

Shelia: I only saw the old poem again after you asked about it. I was very surpised how different the new version is compared with the old one. The change happened in small steps. I'm relieved to find that, after quite a lot of expended time, the new one is better.
I can imagine how different More...

This is Phil from Punxsutawney Pennsylvania.
These rude, crude giants in funny dress [humans] have pulled me out of my nice warm home,
all because of some so called legend about me seeing my shadow.
Well I saw my shadow so we will have 6 more weeks of winter, that will teach them.
Now back to my nice warm bed!!

Over breakfast one morning, a woman said to her husband, "I’ll bet you don't know what day this is."

"Of course I do," he answered as if he was offended, and left for the office.

At 10:00 a.m., the doorbell rang and when the woman opened the door, she was handed More...

On Groundhog Day what does it mean if the groundhog sees a stupid monster?
You'll have six more weeks of stupidity!

What would you get if you crossed February 2 with a puppy?
Ground-dog Day!

What happened when the groundhog met the dogcatcher?
He became a pound hog!

Good afternoon to all! This picture makes me think of the Unicorn Song....
And take some of them
Green alligators and long necked geese
Some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
Don't you forget my unicorns.

Well Punxsutawney Phil, unfortunately both Wiarton Willy here in Ontario and Shubenacadie Sam of Nova Scotia agree with you this time around. Winter will stick around for six more weeks. Just how bad that winyer might be they didn't say!

Two old ladies were outside their nursing home, having a smoke when it started to rain. One of the ladies pulled out a condom, cut off the end, put it over her cigarette and continued smoking.
