Speaking of horses....

There are ten horses, but only 9 stables. How do you fit all the horses inside?

-You can't put 2 horses in the same stable.
-You can't make another stable.
-You can't split a stable in half.

Good afternoon to all! I wonder if a cork tree floats if it rains heavily?

I also prefer corks in wine bottles. I remember the good old days, sitting by the campfire, working on getting the cork out with a Swiss army knife. Of course, the cork breaks so with great patience you push it into the bottle (using your multi-purpose knife) and then strain the wine through a J cloth as you pour it into every one's plastic cups!

We had another major rain storm here yesterday afternoon and evening. High winds, trees down, power lines down, etc. here in the city, but on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, a tornado hit two towns. In one of the towns, over 40 houses were severely damaged, with half of those houses having More...

Good Lord Greg, that's heaping disaster upon disaster. What a horrible thing to happen.

I like my wine in screw top bottles. It is so much easier to deal with when you are at a picnic or bbq. It is also easier to put into the fridge as the wine cork sits up and never seems to fit into the shelf on the door.
I think the last cork I saw in a bottle was a champagne cork. Even that was a while ago as I am on a self imposed alcohol free month.

I was out for dinner on Saturday night and was chatting about this subject with our waitperson - somehow there is not the same magic in the opening of the bottle at the table when all they do is unscrew a top. He was also telling me the latest is a glass stopper, he brought one to the table later to show me - they look a bit like the old stoppers in a pharmacy bottle.

Greg, by being here we can see you are OK but did your abode suffer any damage? Nature can certainly be ferocious at times.
I find we are getting a lot of screw topped wines lately and I agree they are easier to keep in the fridge.

Did you hear about the corkscrew that was committed to the insane asylum because it had a screw loose?

A corkscrews idea of a night out is a screwball.

Do you know what the chauffer who takes corkscrews to the screwball is called?
....A screwdriver.

June, the tornado was over in Quebec about 60 miles away. Around where I live we just had rain (lots of it), extremely high winds and some downed tree branches. All is well thanks.

Looks like those one-liners about corkscrews doubled up when I posted. Sorry folks.

What did the doctor say to the corkscrew? "I see you've taken a turn for the worse".

Greg - glad you're ok. Summer storms can be deadly. I'll never forget Hurricane Isabel in 2003 (the last year we were in the Richmond). We lost 6 huge oak trees and had no power for nearly 2 weeks.

all.
I do miss corks but I don't think the taste of the wine has suffered from the alternate stoppers. Greg, I thought a Swiss Army knife would have a cork-screw on it.

So would I, Shosho.
She'll be delighted to see me, as she always is. She seldom remembers my name but knows I'm someone she loves. Often, she tells people that I'm her sister (indeed!!!).

Good Evening to everyone.

It has been a busy day here in Michigan! I had a nice lunch with Angi today.

Greg - I am glad to hear you are okay up there.

We need rain here. The yards are starting to turn brown. I don't care to have any high winds though. We have lost power about 3 times this summer and that is enough!!!!

I guess the expression "Put a cork in it!" will someday puzzle the young folk - as "broken record" does now! Actually, we were at a used book store today and they had old CDs and albums - I saw one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums and my daughters insisted I get it! Love those colorful album covers of old!

I think that part of the reason that LPs were more appealing that CDs is because of their artwork.

Wow all this talk abour wine and cork's, I remember the first time I went to an very nice Restaurant and ordered a great bottle of wine, the waiter, with great ceremony removed the cork, gave it to me to smell, then poured a taste in a glass and it was up to me to accept or reject the wine at that time. What will happen to that Ambiance when the cork Disappears?

In the U.S., there are a few restaurants that allow you to bring your own wine for which they charge a "corkage" fee to decant the wine for you. With the new bottles, will they call it a "screwage" fee? Curious minds want to know...
