Great picture! The first (only!) time I had ever seen a wild turkey was last September while we were taking a side road in New Mexico. We came across about six of them and I'm not sure who was the most startled! My pictures are nice but not as close as this.

maen all! ben franklin would be proud of the comeback the turk has made. he wanted the turkey to be the national bird. the name comes from the pilgrims at a time when most strange things were called turkish. almost every region has a different subspecies as well. legs and wings are tough but the breast meat is quite tasty if a bit gamy.
