Beer would be a handy word to know how to say in Welsh ... how is cwrw pronounced?

Guess after saying that word a couple times in Wales I'd also need to know how to ask for the location of the ladies room?

Good afternoon to all! Looks like a nice spot Ian. How long did the host keep you waiting in line for a table?
15/Jul/08 5:24 AM

Plum, try saying "Where is the ladies room?" It works every time (or so I am told).

Centuries ago, the English ensured that the Welsh people all spoke passable English. But Welsh nationalism is alive and well, and they go to great pains to preserve their language and customs. And rightly so. They are lovely people.

Shiela, do you have a Welsh background? I envy you your visit.

The Railway Inn is nowhere near the railway station, that is way up on the hillside. The railway is called Tal- Y- Lynn (or something like that) and is the narrow gauge railway that was used to bring the slate from the mines down to the sea at Tywyn. It is now a tourist attraction.

Cwrw? I guess if you can still say it you are not too drunk to have another! Or is it one of those words you can slur & not notice?

It is the Talyllyn Railway Ian. We have some videos of the Steam in Wales. (have also been on the trains)

Two days ago my daughter asked me what language was spoken in Wales. I took her to the links on the BBC news site to articles in Welsh. There is even a 'learn Welsh' link with pdf files to download. One thing I couldn't find was a pronunciation guide! I know w and y are vowels, but how DO you pronounce cwrw?

Thanks June, I was close.

The language is absolutely beautiful when spoken by a Welshman! I have Welsh blood, but too many generations back to help! I know just a few words. Here goes!

To pronounce "cwrw" (beer)...
C is always a k sound as in "cart".
W is oo, either as in "look" More...
