I did not know the hisbiscus was the confederate rose!

Is there a "Union Rose"?

No but a Union suit.

Need long johns today. My thermometer reads 9 F (-8 C). I'd rather be able to go outside and see a brilliant red hibiscus.

Red hibiscus makes me think of Christmas down-under!

maen all! my face is confederate red from shoveling out 20" of snow this am...thank the lord for 4x4's and plows or i'd never get out of our 100'+ driveway! amazingly my sis's flight on emirate is on time at jfk...we dropped her off yesterday before things got real bad out on the island...they've been whacking mimosas and bloody marys since 6am...they need to sleep on a 12,000mi. flight!

Hibiscus blooming in other parts. Earlier this week the temperature dropped close to -20. Now it's balmy -6 (centigrade). Not much snow here, send some from the US East coast, please!

Brought in our Christmas tree today. A beautiful silvery spruce. I feel that it is worth each and every single one of the 50 euros I paid for it.

I just asked Lynne (grew up in Texas) and she'd never heard Confederate Rose as another name for Hibiscus.

My favorite flower! :o) Had to to bring my hibiscus tree inside for winter; hopefully it will bloom again next spring. At least I can enjoy the photo...

I don't think a hibiscus & a confederate rose are the same. Will Google to find out!

The Hibiscus in my yard are in bloom right now so one need not be Down Under to have them as Christmas flowers.
I have not heard them called Confederate Rose.

As a Union Man I prefer "Hibiscus"

No matter what it is, this one is beautiful.
