Where do this many geese gather? Somewhere on a migration path? Awesome shot!

What an incredible picture. Judy -- is there a special 'mapquest' for birds?

The picture was from my backyard in South Dakota. The geese follow the snow line north into canada whereever they can find bare ground to find some food. Then gather on the open water for safty from hunters and preditors. They were just leaving for there afternoon feeding. Thepicture was taken about this time last wear.

They are mostly snow geese with some blue mixed in. Very few canadians.

I love birds of any kind, great picture. I wonder how many birds there were? My son, his wife and my grandbaby live in Rapid City SD, he is in the Air Force. 77 and sunny today, still need rain.

Congratulations, Elmer. What a great shot. Almost unbelievable - so many, many, many birds. As my (former) teenage son would have said: Wow, man. You have one neat backyard!

I play sudoku everyday and it is anoying as can be having all those side advertisements making noise and moving around, Could you at least keep the advertising quiet and still!!!!

I think this is the single best nature photograph that has ever been on the site. Outside of the Black Hills and a few places along the Missouri River, I found most of South Dakota to be too desolate for my tastes and wondered how folks could live there. Sights like this one show why!
