Beautiful stone walls - a dying craft. Looks like a cool place to be on a hot summer day (if it gets that hot in Yorkshire)

5:21 A lovely photo--perfect place for a stroll or a nice ride on horseback.

8:25 Good Maen. The picture (and Cathy's comment) have inspired me to leave the computer and go for a horseback ride!

I think the stone walls were there to protect the hedges from cars.Driving these things is a bit challenging for an Aussie who is used to straight, open roads -two chains wide to allow the bullock wagons to turn around. In most cases there's not enough room for two cars to pass and you can't see More...

I have a painting by David Smith hanging in my living room that looks so much like this photo! I love it because every time I look at it I wonder what's around the bend.

Great place for a walk wouldn't want to drive my car down there.

9:55 That road can easily take traffic each way ........a familiar sight in England

great photo, would be fun bike track

Not so sure I'd want to walk. What if a car came tearing around the bend and any gap in the wall was too far away to duck into.

Rob/Liverpool you sound like my late father-in-law. His theory was the faster you drive through the English lanes, the less likely you are to meet an oncoming car. He was right, of course, but he managed to give me a couple of good frights in the process - and I have been a flying instructor so it takes a bit to give me a fright.

Beautiful picture... blanket and nice bottle of wine waiting around the bend would be nice

We were in Yorkshire 2 years ago, and it is lovely. Want to get back there some day. Interesting stone fences separating the fields. Lots of oilseedrape fields, beautifully yellow.

Islandbea, I have replied to your query on my page.

Thank you to all who have enjoyed my photo. We loved Yorkshire and stayed a couple of days with my wife's 'rellies'. The weather was very kind to us.

For some reason, the picture reminds me of the beginning of a Monty Python skit...John Cleese is going to come riding a bicycle, wearing a bowler hat and fall over when a man dressed in drag jumps from behind the wall and starts beating him with her handbag. Just my impression :)

mAen! 5:31. A lovely road. Reminds me of its cousins I have met in Ireland, James Herriott novels and all those BBC productions. Should be
riding along it at a leisurely pace with my bike,
sigh. Well it's May Day Eve, so I'll stop working
an hour early and do a couple of Sudokus instead(not forgetting to enjoy the company of my family)

I can see it now - lean in to right, footpegs scraping, 1/2 way thru bend as helmet gently touches tree branches, twist throttle and the 900 Paso (Ducati) fights to keep the front wheel on the ground...........

Thanks Cathy, I did. I have a 10 mile torch run tomorrow to support Special Olympics. My horse club has raised nearly $6000! Lucky we get to ride instead of run or I would never make it. :)
