What a strange flower!
It almost looks like a hibiscus.

Where would you find such a flower anyway?

It's called a Christmas cactus. It blooms in late November, early-to-mid December (in the northern hemisphere).

The only problem with the large Epiphiliums is that the blooms don't last - they are glorious for the hours before they wilt away. The small ones called Christmas Cactus - do bloom for some time and blooms last.

They are glorious when in bloom, but when those flowers fade and fall, what a mess!

Not at all, Broni, my time was 10.19, sigh [tears] anyway, i've never seen that cactus flower before, and it does look like a cross between a hibiscus and a lily, beautiful.

I have several Christmas cacti blooming at the moment; they really are quite pretty, but Kathy, you're right, I stand by for the mess. Funny, this is the first time mine have bloomed around Christmas time when they're supposed to.

maEn, all. Cactus flower, eh? Kinda reminds me of an old girl friend. Stay warm and stay dry, everyone.

Several years ago, on a whim, I forced a Christmas cactus to bloom early by altering the amount of sunlight it received each day. Interesting experiment, but not very productive.
