4:09 - took a while to sort out a misclick.

I didn't get all of it? Is "Silver Anniversary" a kind of azalea, or am I expected to give my wife azaleas for our silver anniversary? (8 years and 12 days to go)

Calling all gardeners ... we've had azaleas and rhododendrons planted for eight years--great flowers, but the shrubs are getting leggy, are oddly shaped and look like heck once the flowers are gone. Can they be lopped back like any other shrub so they fill out? (Garden centers around here have been no help ...)

Cathy, you definitely can cut back the rhods, but you need to be careful when you do it or else you will not have any flowers next year. Not so sure about the azeleas, mine are the same way. So, if you get any good advice please share. Thanks!

Cathy... you can prune them back IMMEDIATELY after they finish blooming. That way they will have time to put out new growth to bloom on next Spring.

Azaleas do quite well in Sydney, particularly if we have a dry winter. Rhododendrons aren't supposed to do well, but there are some amazing bushes/small trees growing in gardens around here! The azaleas are just starting to flower now. The Rhododendrons will flower a bit later. Heidi's right about More...

7:46 Speaking of azaleas and rhododendrons, maybe some people are not aware of their relation, the mountain laurel that grows in the eastern US. It's the state flower of Connecticut. It's the size of a tree in the mid to southern states, but more shrublike in the north. The wood is supposed to be More...

Very pretty, I have one in a pot a little paler than that, which is just coming into flower!! I bought a red one for the front garden, but sadly it has gone to God - along with the gardenia, and.... Oh well, I do try!
