Lovely flower shot, Ian, but I have no idea what it might be.

Isn't this a daffodils?

I think it is a kind of Camelia. The flower looks different, but the foliage looks like Camelia bushes. That's my guess.
Hey, my avatar shows up...still haven't figured out how to get it to not be so blurry. It is a picture of pond flowers.

5:36 The flower itself looks like a daffodil, but the foliage and buds do not. Something more exotic maybe?

some type of clematis maybe?

7:05 Hi to all.

At first I, too, thought it was a daffodil, but the longer I look at it, I don't believe it is.... Whatever it is, it is a beautiful yellow flower.

I'm clueless.
Whatever it is, it's gorgeous!

Good afternoon to all! Beautiful picture Ian. I think Viki might be correct in that it is a variety of Camelia, as the leaves look the same.

7:47 It's not quite like any camellia I've seen, so I googled images and did a little research and I can't say if it is or isn't. A single camellia does have 5 petals and the showy stamen are somewhat correct, except for the center of the blossom. The stigma (center part) on this blossom looks more More...

I'm guessing it is a kerria - the single flowering variety (not the double-flowering) - it has 5 petals and nice central stamens. But it's just a guess... What a lovely picture, Ian!

I FOUND IT! I FOUND IT!
I looked through a book of mine on English flowers, and there it was! Hypericum patulum "Hidcote". Also called "St. John's Wort".

This particular one is a shrub that can grow up to 6 ft. tall.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Heidi.
The mystery is solved - at last.

Awful name though.

I looked up the meaning of the word in the dictionary, and it was particularly unhelpful
"a plant; herb; vegetable (now used mainly in combination, as in liverwort"

Isn't St. John's Wort supposed to help with depression, but unsafe when mixed with other medications?
09/Jul/08 8:35 AM

It also apparently increases sun sensitivity...

I thought I had read an article about it recently so googled.... It was tested for use with ADHD and found to be no better than a placebo.

Hypericum is great for repairing nerve damage and for relieving 'phantom' pains of amputees, especially homeopathically. Gorgeous photo, Ian, as usual.

Beautiful Ian, and thank you Heidi!!!

My flower book says 'wort' means 'plant' and 'St John' because it flowers in mid summer around St John's day 24 June.
Thank you Ian (and Heidi)

Beautiful picture... Thanks. It gives me another view of St-John's wort.... before Ian's photo, I had only seen it in remedy bottle ... never used it myself but those who did said It helped them.
