Nope, Greg, Charter Schools are almost entirely publicly-funded. The money earmarked by State and Federal governments for each student goes to the Charter School rather than to the customary Public School ... which is an occasional point-of-contention for us Public School people! Charter Schools More...

Wow, Angela, that is one heck of a wake-up call. Glad you are OK. Reminds me of the early 80s when I lived in a nasty part of St. Louis, Missouri, and heard 11 gunshots fired in anger during a 13 month stay. I also got to see a man armed with a powered-on chainsaw chasing another man down the street, screaming "Come back here and fight like a man, you *&^%$!!!!"

Gath, thanks for clearing up the issue on posting avatars, etc. I had been holding off doing so till you moved to the server, expecting such a paragraph from you....
Experience gained in the 20 years of dealing with the IT people while being a CAD guy in the engineering design group still proves useful from time to time.

Rayray, seems like it should be an anthem for the international kingdom of Sudokuland, as we have King Gath at the helm.

Big game tonight, and gearing up! Detroit versus Ottawa! Whooo Hooo!
P.S. - Judy, he wasn't Gordie, but Stevie Y. was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame yesterday!

am I the only European here tonight? Feeling quite 'foreign'!
13/Jan/08 1:43 PM
 |  |

Maen all. Rayray, maybe we need a rational anthem instead of national anthem
13/Jan/08 1:45 PM
 |  |
FIONA, I think a Scottish lass teaching English in France qualifies as uniquely "foreign," don't you? :)
13/Jan/08 1:48 PM
 |  |

or just plain daft Judy!! How are you doing?
13/Jan/08 1:50 PM

I just checked, Greg, and the hockey game isn't being televised here. Will you let me know how it goes? Go Wings! Why was Yzerman honored in Ottawa? I thought he was from B.C. and spent his whole career in Detroit? Nice, though ...
13/Jan/08 1:53 PM
 |  |

I prove my point - you Americans just don't speak English anymore!!!
13/Jan/08 1:55 PM
 |  |

and Judy - I haven't been called a lass for a long long time!
13/Jan/08 1:56 PM

Steve is from Nepean, part of Ottawa. He is a home town boy, and has an areana here named after him.
13/Jan/08 1:56 PM

Judy - or a Chicagoan in Georgia. So near and yet so foreign
13/Jan/08 1:58 PM
 |  |

Fiona, what do you mean by the "only Euopean" on the site? You should have said the "most important European" on the site!
13/Jan/08 1:59 PM

And I still can't spell, even after all those extra lessons....
13/Jan/08 2:00 PM

Greg - I think she means right at this moment.
13/Jan/08 2:00 PM
 |  |

Of course, who knows how many "lurking Europeans" there are?
13/Jan/08 2:01 PM
 |  |

okay Greg, here I am, the one and only most important European/Scottish/Frenchy on the site! How's that?!! And no-one wants to talk to me!!
13/Jan/08 2:03 PM

So I was still correct in my comment Jane, wasn't I?

I just made some intra-national brownies - composed of chocolate from California (shaved Ghiradelli), Frango Mint liqueur (from Chicago) and Georgian pecans. Yummm!

no Jane, most Europeans will be out on this Saturday night. you know, bopping, and doing those things we all used to do about twenty-odd (maybe even thirty!) years ago.
13/Jan/08 2:05 PM

Have some brownies, Fiona! Greg, I guess you are technically correct, so you can have some brownies, too.

Bon jour Fiona. Comment sa va? (or would you prefer some Gaelic?) Hope not, as I'm very rusty. It has been yesrs since my father passed and tried to bring me up to speed (I never got out of first gear).
13/Jan/08 2:06 PM

ok Jane, since you're talking to me, where's St Simmons Island please? Might as well brush up on my general knowledge...
13/Jan/08 2:07 PM

ça va bien Greg, merci! and I can't speak gaelic either, so can't help you out there.

We did all our "bopping" earlier in the week, so it will be early to bed tonight! We went to our favorite restaurant in Fernadina Beach (Florida) Thursday on our way home from Jacksonville and treated ourselves to their Thursday night special (steak and baked potato for $9.95!) and More...

now wouldn't a little mojito go down just nicely at the moment!

Ah, Fiona ... you have not yet learned to disguise your lack of a social life. Most of us who are home on the weekends don't post so no one will suspect! :)

Thanks, Greg.

Fiona - St. Simons Island is midway down Georgia's Atlantic coastline (most people don't even realize Georgia HAS a coastline). Of course, it's only about 100 miles long - tucked in between South Carolina and Florida. We're about 75 miles from Savannah (GA) and 75 miles from Jacksonville Beach More...

Fiona, I notice you have a French keyboard. André is in Spain, don't know where Mo is, so you'd best contact Liz and Catherine as they are your closest neighbors.

you are so cruel Judy!!
13/Jan/08 2:14 PM

Actually, Judy, I'm posting this from the deck of a 200-foot yacht, heading toward Bermuda for a private party.

And the steward has just summoned us for cocktails in the salon, so I must run. Ta ta!

Greg, 'twould be obvious that my keyboard is in French as I bought the laptop here! Thanks Jane, I know where you are now -sort of Gone with the Wind direction.
