One of the (few) enefits of being a semi-impoverished retiree is the simplicity of filing taxes. After years of having very complicated at-home businesses, second home deductions, etc., etc., etc., I now find myself able to file online in 10 minutes with a .000001 mm tall stack of papers in front More...

Withholding aside (pun intended), G'Mo's got a point about the filing of the returns.
If We the People went on strike and failed to file returns en masse, it would be a powerful symbolic statement that said enough is enough as far as the insanity of the current system is concerned. Powerful More...

But, Plum, that would put all the tax lawyers and CPAs out of work. And since we already have an outrageous unemployment rate (what with businesses either imploding or outsourcing jobs overseas), what would these poor folks do for a living???

Maybe we should all 'leaf' our money in a 'trunk' instead of the 'branch' of the local 'banksia'.

Andre: If you are a tree, you are an O(A)K tree so don't worry about it. I hope your thoughts for the day will still be relavent to the inferior human condition and will not only be designed for trees.

Been reading. Should have known that the gov't would have a self-protection law. Seems that it's a criminal offense to willfully fail to file. I really don't advocate breaking the law.

No, Jane. There will always need to be a place for accountants and, yes, even lawyers in the normal course of free enterprise. Plus, I'm not suggesting we don't pay taxes (unless taxes were abolished?). I'm just saying that it's finally coming to the point where we are capable as a nation of coming to a concensus to make tax reform a reality instead of a campaign talking point.

Rayray - the mental picture of a bunch of Easter rabbits all rushing for the loo is hilarious. Many thanks to you et al for the lighthearted banter. I'm thinking out loud here and need to stop. Being basically sleepless all night is making me garrulous.

sorry but I have to vent - because, I'm sure that most of you can relate to my closed lip slight shake of the head. My son went back to college yesterday, I did 14, count 'em 14 loads of laundry over the weekend. My husband told me today, I washed More...

It was a feeble attempt at a joke, Plum. My sense of humor is a bit peculiar, I'm afraid! But seriously, there is a major industry that has been built around our ridiculous tax system.

I treated my youngest son to my car this morning - I open my patio door and put my panises out to start to harden -- I'm planning to ride my bike to work today - the sun is out, as soon as I put those plants out, the sun ran away --- come back sun, come back.

I watched the DVD "Changeling" this morning, very good and so sad, it's based on a true story from the 1928's, I then looked up the background information on the case -- very interesting. I enjoy movies and my books, but now, gotta clean up abit around the house. take care

***A*T*T*E*N*T*I*O*N***:

I, too, used to do my best work when I was tired. Back when I was gainfully employed (and/or freelancing), I would always put off my writing assignments until a day or two before the deadline and then work around the clock to complete them on time. Interestingly, when I did them well in advance of the deadline, the quality of my writing suffered!
