Dorthea - You know, that (service comments) would be funny if it wasn't so true... For one thing. Home mail delivery. Not. The 30 or so families on my road must go 1/2 to 1 1/2 miles to pick up their mail. Large package? Drive to town...

Well, today is off to a bumpy start. I picked up my week old peacocks and brought them home. They're lovely and settling in well. But as I walked into the barn with them, I spotted my favorite ewe, who has a 5 day old baby, down and having convulsions. I've got a call into the Vet (who's only 5 miles away), and am waiting his call back. It doesn't look good.

Jerry... That's one very nice aspect of living here..our Postal SERVICE! They bring packages to the door if they're too big for the mailbox, and let us know if there's a perishable one coming. We've even had them deliver a package TO THE DOOR on Christmas morning!!! We really appreciate these people.

Heidi - best of luck with the ewe. Were all of your new pea-fowl males or were you using peacock generically? What colors did you get?
16/Jul/08 2:25 AM

Well, I notice the USPS doesn't call country mail "rural free delivery" any more....

I was using it generically, Jerry. I don't know which sexes they are yet. These 3 are all Black Shouldered, my favorite color. Besides these, I also have 2 Black Shouldered Purples, and 2 Blue White Eyed. These 4 are 2 months old.

Gotta go.. the Vet just called and I need to rush over there for some meds.

If I want "home delivery" I specify UPS, FedEx or DHL. The difference in shipping charges is rapidly made up by the lost time required and the cost of driving to the post office.

What's going on? Anyone have an answer? This is spooky! How did my daughter's message from yesterday "jump" to today's page? She doesn't know how to do a cut and paste and my computer was giving me fits at the time the Little Plum message posted today.

Who knows, Plum! Computers have a life of their own. We are at their mercy Sometimes it's best to just accept that "that's the way it be"

Jerry, The only time I drive to the Post Office is to pick up birds and fish that don't do well if they wait.

GREAT NEWS! The ewe is already responding to the meds, and instead of laying on her side, stiff and convulsing, she's now on her feet, tho' pretty shaky yet, I think she's gonna make it!

Weird things on my computer today. I'm shutting down and giving it a rest. Hope it's not infected with anything. I don't have a vet handy to help me give it meds.

Well, at least everyone up here today knows that Little Plum did her first ever easy puzzle on this site yesterday (hence the comment about m&ms) then posted a thank you to everyone who sent her greetings. We've been googling places where you all are from to find out more and she's been fascinated. Thanks.

Plum, well I got sudoku buddies from Australia and Lebanon to visit me. Loved it! And went to see more from Florida and Georgia. This sudoku site is the best! The people I've met are simply super people, so kind and caring. I believe I'm the luckiest person in the world to know so many wonderful friends! THANK YOU, GATH!

misunderstood - I thought it was the lamb of your favorite ewe that was having the problems. Soooo sorry. May she fully recover and be able to care for her very young offspring. Good thing you caught the problem when you did.

WoooHoooo!!
The ewe is MUCH better! She's now walking, and her little lamb is able to nurse again! She will still need shots for 2 more days, but I feel that she's out of the woods. And I feel relieved.

Morning all!

Great news about your ewe Heidi!

I took my kids to an animal park yesterday and there were peacocks (and hens) wandering freely all over the park. They were in and out of enclosures, sitting on rooves, walking right by us, two even joined us in the parking lot on our way out.

Lovely floral production of Hamlet...I bee pleased to see it! Good news about your ewe, Heidi! and I haven't met anyone from Sudokuland in person yet, but I am so tickled at how warm and welcoming everyone is on this site. I feel like part of the family (and a happy, functional one at that!) - Ditto on the gratitude to Gath!!!

I played tennis this morning with seven other ladies in a round robin. It seemed hotter today than any other day this year so far - heat index 103F.!! The sweat was literally dripping off my elbows. Then we went to have lunch afterward & froze in the overcooled restaurant. Rushed home to take a hot shower to warm up again! Crazy.
