Fiona we don't actually get Johnny Halliday we gat someone called Richard Halliday doing a copycat act I think. If he is anything like the guy making noise into the microphone at the moment it will be awful. We get a female singer tomorrow all the posters announce her as International. Never heard More...

I don't really know what's worse Mo - JH for real or RH pretending! You should have come here for the WE, we could have gone to Lourdes together!

Oh no Fiona, I went there once and couldn't get out fast enough. The miles of tattiness and vendors all hustling to sell awful plasticky tack was dreadful. I felt so sorry for those who were in desperate need that had to almost fight their way through. I never actually got to the grotto

You have lived in France a long time can you explain to me the attraction on JH?
16/Aug/08 1:11 AM
 |  |

I would go so far as to rate him 10 on the Cringe-ometer, only.

You need to visit in the winter when all the tacky shops shut and there's no-one around - a very different experience indeed and a lot less stressful all round.

I feel in a really catty mood after spending yesterday locked in conflict with French legal administrators. So here goes.
Do you think JH thinks the girls are after him for his 'good looks and personality' and not his money?
16/Aug/08 1:14 AM
 |  |

JH???? What can I say??? I suppose he was reasonably ok about forty years ago, but how he's managed to hang around and be so popular to this day is anyone's wild guess. We should ask Claude when she comes back, she'd know!

It is not often that we get to spend time here without our antipodean friends and trans atlantic neighbours

At least Cliff had good looks, personality, a great voice .......well according to me...

JH doesn't have much of a brain, everyone knows that - and he's so rich he probably doesn't give a damn whether it's his euros or not that the girls are after. What's up with the French legal administrators? You don't mean to say you actually wanted them to do something for you on the eve of a national holiday??? Now Mo, you should know better than that!
16/Aug/08 1:18 AM

...but Cliff was never interested in the girls...

We signed our compromis in March..... and yesterday they said to me 'How can you expect us to do things in a hurry for you , it is August!!!!!!'
16/Aug/08 1:19 AM
 |  |

Maybe that was why my mother never worried when I went to his concerts!!!!!
16/Aug/08 1:20 AM

Exactly - nothing but nothing happens in France in August. Nothing. Nothing at all. You should know that by now and just settle down and wait for September to come! Just another fortnight! THEN, things will get moving!

At this moment the Office du Tutelle owe me 5 'we will call you back before we go home' phone calls

But Fiona we were supposed to move in June.
What can they do in September that they couldn't do in April, May, June, or July

2:21 Happy Independence Day to all our friends in India!
It's a gorgeous, sunny day here; got the eighteen holes in last night, finishing under the most beautiful bright pink sky--then we saw the lightning and ran to the car with only five minutes to spare before the storm hit. But I had a great round, for my first game of the year!

Nothing also happens between 12 and 2pm, before 8am, after 6pm, the day before a national holiday, the day after a national holiday, plus the next two days too if it's a weekend...nothing happening is an art the French have mastered to perfection!
16/Aug/08 1:24 AM
 |  |

And Mo, not only have they gone home, that was four weeks ago now!
16/Aug/08 1:25 AM
 |  |

You sound like you had fun Cathy - go play some golf with Mo, she needs the destressing!
16/Aug/08 1:27 AM
 |  |

I know, Fiona, that was why we bought in March.
Maybe we should have held off till september to give them 11 months to get their desks in order.
Not being able to organising a drinking session in a beer making establishment, comes to mind.
16/Aug/08 1:29 AM
 |  |

Oh Fiona I read your comment to Cathy as distressing and thought I was distressed enough but at least you made me laugh
16/Aug/08 1:30 AM
 |  |

Mo, I reckon you've been shouting at the house people, phoning them up and pestering them, maybe even threatening them, with no other excuse than that you've bought a house - frankly that is not on! Now, had you put in an order for a few hundred bottles of some good wine, you would be relaxed, happy, drinking your wine in peace. AND, it would have arrived four months ago!! You just chose wrong.

Awwww - Cute picture.

Good Maen to everyone around the world.

Happy Independence day to all our friends in India!

We just received word that a close friend of ours has had a stroke. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!

Will do, Debby

GannieMo I think you need these, ! Bureaucracy!

Debby, I'm so sorry about your friend. Strokes are so scary for none of us ever knows if we might be the one to have a stroke tomorrow. They happen to even seemingly healthy people. I hope & pray your friend will have a steady & complete recovery from his.

Thanks for the prayers!!! They are appreciated!

Fiona, it has almost driven me to drink all the wine in the whole region, but I have restrained myself. but it is five minutes before 6 and I found a small amount of Campari in the camper van I think I shall go and partake of a glass, with soda, of course. Chin chin

Mo, sounds like you're all ready to move, but are just waiting for paper work to be done?? No wonder you are so aggravated. How is your husband feeling? Did you drag him to the dr.'s appt. yet?

Here Mo, I made some rather yummy mint brownies this afternoon which have just cooled down enough to eat - there must be about 3,567,832 calories in each mouthful, but oh, what the heck!
16/Aug/08 2:00 AM
 |  |

If only I lived closer I'd be there like a shot. Maybe if I set off now walking I would burn off 3,567,832 calories so lose a little at the same time

Used up a whole entire box of After Eights making them!

Kathy, Steve has gall stones but they are not going to operate unless he gets a bad infection!!!
And yes we have been living with packing cases since mid may. We were going to sleep in the camper during essential work but with autumn and winter coming on it looks like we will hacve to rent something else close by for the duration.

I'm on my way, Fiona

Kathy the house has no mains electrics, water or drainage. No central heating, no kitchen and only a basic shower/wc room
